    Default Singapore Day

The Singapore Day event held recently in New York City cost $4 million. One of the aims of the event is to woo overseas Singaporeans home and boost the local talent pool.

just Skyped my cousin who lives in NY with her family ... she went and she loved it ..... she says it helps with the homesickness and its a good feeling that Singapore is promoting itself to regular New Yorkers.... and of ALL places.... Brooklyn where regular americans live. I found it touching that OSU did not do it in Manhattan but decided to reach out to regular folks

And it was a GREAT CHANCE for her to show her american friends who went along, a slice of Singapore almost all who have never visited our country or Asia

she's got no plans on coming back permanently but it DID get the homesick pangs going .... so she might come back during the winter for a holiday

BTW she left Sg because of a combination of job (Global Head of Procurement for a MNC) and the bonus of a relaxed education environment for her 2 kids ..... char kway teow is not going to bring her back permanently ...... but it re-affirmed her roots as a true blue Singaporean regardless of the political situation

$4mil imho is well spent to give an actual smell and taste of our country to people who have heard of but never visited our country ....... producing and running 10 x 20-sec ads for prime time is already a few times that cost

anyway the cost was spread over about 15 partners like SIA, Hyflux, Wing Tai , Millenium Hotels, NOL, Tote Board, Temasek, Great Eastern .... even ZOUK !! https://app.singaporeday.gov.sg/partners.html

p/s ONE thing that she misses though ..... she actually misses the IRAS income tax department and her old 21% tax bracket before she moved out of Sg ....lolzzz

Must make them chope seats with tissue paper to cure their homesickness and remember Singapore's unique ways.

Now they can buy this when overseas.

    Nowadays bo bian.

Another "bad habit" is not waiting for people to come out of the train before boarding and just squeezing your way in. Trouble is, if you don't do that, there's no way you're going to get into the train at peak hours. Yesterday I was at YCK MRT at around 7.40 am. Each train came, 1 person comes out from each door, 1 person goes in, that's it. People already squeezed against the door until it cannot close properly. Want to take MRT must see who is the most nasty one to squeeze in. The train frequency was around 5-6 min. You don't try the best to be a f***er and squeeze your way in I see you wait until when then can board.
