Sorry to say Zaren,
I notice that your shots do not match the title most of the time.
For this shot: Xmas Cheer? Where is the "thing" in the picture that shows it is xmas?

It just looks like a normal photo captured.

For the "Beast Burden" or something like that, there is no linkage again. What is it about with relation to the beast and the passerby.

From most of the shots you have posted, they look flat, no focus of object, title mismatched, looks more like a normal day to day photo.

You might want to consider the following:
1) Know your subject;
2) Simplify;
* You have a tendancy to put in so many things to distract the main object.

Hope the above helps. Just my personal comments...

I do agree with the title of 'Xmas Cheer' seem to have no relation. But I have to disagree on the "I notice that your shots do not match the title most of the time." & "From most of the shots you have posted, they look flat, no focus of object, title mismatched, looks more like a normal day to day photo." parts.

For the 'beast burden' one, seems he titled it that way because you can see the beast carrying a errr ... pot (or whatever) which people place joss sticks in. That probably is the 'burden' as in the title.

Some of us are 'fans' of his work, especially 'poster related' ones. Some of his stuff are a real inspiration to me too. To me, street shots are meant to be 'normal day to day' photos.

yap...as mentioned earlier that its my point of view.

I would regard those street shots taken by streetshooter are more inspiring and something which we could learn. You will find that his shots contains more "feel" and story. The recent ones from Japan is real good. Objects are clearly defined and mood of the pictures are clearly shown.

Considering the "Beast Burden" shot, you can simply just take a picture of the beast and name it anything you like. There is no story behind it. Especially with the inclusion of the passerby.
I would think that street shot, if you refer as a day to day shot, some thoughts would still have to be considered before squeezing the trigger.
You dont simply snap a girl walking pass and titled it "walking pass".

I hope you can understand what I mean. The "mood" must be there to turn a simple day to day snapshot into a meaningful streetshot.

no worries....i take all comments constructively

"xmas cheer" is to give the shot it's context. it's taken at an xmas gathering. of cos i could write a few words to put it in context but i prefer to mention it in the title. I have also posted pics in the past which were simply left "untitled" or "<date of photo>". other street photographers prefer to title it according to the location of the photo, e.g. "behind the gare st lazard". I would the first to admit that not all titles match the photo perfectly, but again, u can't win 'em all. a recent pic i posted with the title "boys and their toys" had a more apt title.

yep, agree with NYIP's three maxim's for good photos; you left out the second one though; "draw attention to your subject".

thanks for your comments.

I dont really like the idea of putting "untitled" as it shows signs that one did not really think what message he wants to bring across, before taking a photo such that a title cannot be given.

A photographer is the one who takes the picture and should be confident enough to show what he wants to show, a title would add or enhanced the meaning of it. Therefore, I see no meaning letting others naming your own creations for you.

Can you imagine a group photo of a cat, a dog and a hamster (considering, lightings, composition are already in), given a title of "Harmony" would enhanced the mood and feel of the photo?

Anyway, upzzz for your attitude towards photography.
Hope to see some improvements some time next year.
Have a Happy New Year ...

sometimes no amount of words can do justice to the pic, so "untitled" may well be the best title.

i dun believe in letting others name my pics for me, but i am receptive to suggestions.

i think...to place untitled happens when that particular shot is good, but the photog cant figure out a good title for it...thus untitled comes to play...
