I think in pic 1 the subject is under exposed. the background on the back is taking away attention.

pic 2 quite interesting perspective.

pic 3 don't know what is the subject you have in mind.

overall the colour is rather warm. did you set the WB correctly? oh what cam and lens you used?

hmm... here's my try for pic 1 again :

hi hwchoy, the warm colour is becoz of the orange corridor lights that turned on. Took these pics in the evening. I personally liked the warm feeling ... makes me think of home. But think it only appeals to me this way. hehe

I'm using a canon A75 with a digital optics macro lens donno wat specs of these macro lens. Got it 2nd hand.

i brought a 37mm adapter for my cam. Brought it at bestcam for $25. Then i got a 37mm macro lens too. (comes with my wide). It doesn't block my flash.
But the adapter got some problems read this:

However for macro lens and closeup filter , i'm sorry i can't give you an answer coz err... i also donno the diff.
Anyone can teach us?

Photo one: To eliminate the negative space on the left, the camera should have been held 95 degrees from what you have, this would have given the leaf at the bottom some more appeal and reduced the noise of the blur. I like the subject.

Photo 2 is nice, the blur gives an almost reflective look. This one too could have been a little better composed to remove the empty upper right corner. Perhaps down and to the left? OR you could also have focused on the leaf group in the forfront as the drops on them are spectacular.

Photo 3: choose one plan to focus on here, as someone else mentioned the subject isn't clear.

Congrats on diving into Macro, I'm quite interested in it but don't have the $ for the proper lenses just yet.

Noise Ninja is a noise reduction software. Visit the site below to find out more. Costs US$79.95 for the Pro bundle but it's worth it. It's a GREAT for noise reduction. Every review that I've read about it has praises for it only - practically no downsides at all.

thanks jazz... you seem to know quite alot about composition. Well i, on the other hand is quite bad at that. Guess i'll just keep climbing. And btw i'm just using a normal consumer cam (canon A75). and i don't think those macro lenses cost alot. You can try the Buy and Sell forums (i did.)
If you buy a macro lens only. Think they won cost more than S$70. And they usually come with a wide lens too.

Well thanks for your comments i'll keep improving.

yup aspire, it's at the 5th level. (i think) But you must live with the kind of fault that it brings too. (although i still love my adapter). Good luck shopping!

I am getting into photography because I am told often that I have a natural eye for composition. I can't draw, so this seemed like the logical step. As far as the macro lense, I AM on the lookout. I don't have anything but the 50 mm right now for my old SLR so I'm trying to get a few basics first, the macro will be next though. I really do love the water drops on all of those plants, good choice of subjects.

Try to place your plant against other plant. Use longer focal length so that your angle of coverage is narrow and can avoid many distracting in the background. Wait or place your plant in the good lighting position and you are ready to take nicer closeup shots.

thanks megaweb, But ... err sorry for being ignorrant but wat is making my angle of coverage narrow?
do you mean like making the subject more centralised? sorry sorry i v lousy with these terms.
And BTW you're talking about all the pics having the same problem or a specific pic?
