I recently took this lens with me on a trip but was disappointed with the results. I set the shooting mode to P for all the shots. The results were blurry. When I looked at the EXIF info for the shots, it all had shutter speeds of 1/60s. That would explain the blurriness. Does this happen because the camera doesn't know what focal length the lens is at? All shots had high f-stops of f/6.3 to f/18 so I don't know why the camera decided to lock down the shutter speed.

then why dont u set to aperture priority or shutter priority or manual? Usually in P mode, my d70 chooses the widest aperture of the lens eg. f3.5 or f4.5

u need a very steady hand to shoot at 1/60sec from a 180mm lens.... or from a tripod. to confirm if is yr lens problem.......try some shots on a tripod see if the photos are blur.
