It's unlikely that it will be based on the Dynax 9 body. I would expect it to be more or less similar to the 7D but with better specifications.

Cheers!

One of the KM guys at the 7D launch in Birmingham early this years said it was "much more difficult" to adapt the 9 body into a digital version.

But .... not impossible.

The feeling I got was a 9D was an option but it relies almost entirely on the success of the 7D.

Why is that so? Dynax 9 layout and design is similar to Dynax 7.. in fact.. I think they can make a 9D based on 7D.. harden up and weather seal the body, improve FPS, AF performance, write buffer, 100% VF, FF, 12/16MPs.. and there! a 9D

And how much do you think that will cost ?? given that 7D already cost 2000+ ...

If it has the features of what Desmond predicted, maybe you need to revise these figures up by another $4K. Full frame sensors ain't cheap.

Cheers!

1Dsmk2 are still priced the same as 1Ds which was released 2 years ago. It's not going to drop anytime soon.

I'm not sure if I can make it on Wednesday. Could only confirm on Tuesday.

Cheers!

According to Paul Genge of KM, UK, the Dynax 9 is significantly different to the Dynax 7 and obviously to the 7D. He would not rule out a high-end full-frame digital but thought KM would find it easier to start from scratch than to try and build a digital based on the Dynax 9.

Hope this is a bit clearer.

From Minolta trend, I am guessing not for a while. I think that was why 7D has look of 7 and feel of 9 (minus weather proofness). They always seem to wait and see and come up with good quality and OK price.

Talking to the dealer I got, rumor has it that KM is going to come up with cheaper version in spring, but no sign of one with 9 body because I was asking same question.

I agree -- it's about time given the previous "9 cycle" (one every six years) but realistically, we'll see an updated "7Dn" long before a new 9. A pro film camera can be seen as recent for a whole six year period (and indeed I don't feel any need to upgrade my 9), but a digicam is obsolete after one year, and with the pro sales Minolta has the camera wouldn't even pay its research costs. In a couple of years when the market has settled with regards to megapixel count and sensor prices, maybe...

The 9 isn't even particularly weather proofed, I'd say the 7 looks good in the comparison

Default 9d?

I don't think we will see 9D for sometime... if KM decide to make one.

KM reps in Sydney mentioning there will be 2 more new DSLR later in this year closer to Christmas 2005... yup long time to wait... He also told me that 7D will last for at least 2 years before it will be replaced. Too long? I think so... but well, I don't have immediate need for DSLR so Dimage A2 will serve me well, and use Dynax 7 for other shots.

Both DSLR will be cheaper plastic body built to compete with cheaper model. It is mentioned that new DSLR will be based on Dynax 30...

This is what I heard and know... please don't quote me on this... Just to share what I heard. But KM may release something sooner as digital camera market demand it.

er 2 lower ends... Dynax 3D and Dynax 5D? Don't really see the idea of having 2 entry levels unless they are thinking of pricing D 3D below the price of prosumer. While 5D maintains at D70/300D price for the more advanced hobbyist, the super cheap 3D will lure all the prosumer users into buying Minolta DSLR and Minolta glasses, binding them to the system.

Strategy to gain some market share?
