Hong Kong court overturns ruling allowing maids to seek residency - CNN.com
Who was the idiot who ruled in their favour in the first instance?
Now the Hong Kong Court of Appeals finally got it right.
Well, HK holds the final trump card. If the final Court of Appeal also agree they can apply for PR, then maybe HK can do this:
1) Terminate all the maids' contracts, send them ALL back to their country of origin, with immediate effect. Pay the compensation if it is stated in the contract. Allow only half of the original number to re-enter, to send a message that this is the consequence.
2) New applicants who apply to be maids in HK after that have to sign a contract by law that they WILL NOT apply for PR. Otherwise cannot enter.
3) In addition, the contract can only be for 2 years, non-renewable. They MUST go back (and cannot re-enter again until 6 months later) and leave HK after a maximum 2 year stay failing which they are considered illegal overstayers and be jailed.
