Well, obviously, the 10-17 and 18-200 will give the best coverage...

    The 18-200 is ok.
    If not 10-22 + 28-75.

is there a Canon EF 10-17L lens? you mean the tokina 10-17 fisheye?

are you going to hire a porter to carry your bags? or you are going to carry everything yourself? if you are carrying yourself i would suggest you to just bring one 18-200 lens, we are talking about climbing the mountain for at least 6-8 hours in the first day, and at least 2-3 hours in the following midnight, you will appreciate the few hundred grams less of weight, unless you are really fit of course.

anyway, i have been up there with only my D90 and 18-105mm without any problem, instead of a 2nd lens, i would actually suggest you to bring a light tripod, tripod is useful for the sunset shot at Laban Rata, the starssssss on the way up to Low's peak, and also the sunrise shot at Low's Peak.

    cheers.

    Just this 2 will do.

    Canon efs 18-200
    Canon efs 10-22

If you're feeling strong, the just carry everything.

If not, I'd take the 18-200mm mounted on the dSLR and that's all.

Hire a porter and bring all the lens + super heavy and steady tripod + filters + flashes etc etc. Walk up the mountain like a boss, or hire 2-3 more porter to carry you up It cost 8-10 RM per kg of weight for the trip, but that is 10 years ago.

The last 2 trips I went, it drizzle lightly on my way up to Laban Rata and the morning climb to the peak. Weather sealed lens will be good, your 10-17L

Otherwise, I will bring the 10-22 and 18-200, and a small tripod like those gorillapod type. When you going?

    Hi thanks for the response
I will be carrying everything myself... But I am young and fit so should be no problem... Haha
I am bringing a tripod and filters as well.
Someone said something about a macro lens...
    I have a 100mm f2.8L as well.... Should I bring that?
Looks like the recommendation is 10-22 and 18-200.... Why do you guys choose the 10-22 over the 17-40??
I heard 17-40 is very sharp

    Thanks!,!

in your first post, you wrote 10-17L.

i believe 10-22 is wider than 17-40 on cropped body. the 7mm difference really does make a lot of difference.
it's going to be useful for landscape photos, since you mentioned you'll be taking sceneries.

i'm going to go for 10-22(landscapes) + 17-40L(general or portraits). personally i don't need a long telephoto but your needs maybe different from mine. btw, what else would you be shooting?

actually just 10-22 is good enough.

17-40L is not good for your crop as it is not wide enough.

i dun advise u to bring more then one lens... so bring your widest len and yes, that is good enough.

and please train up before u go... else u will miss the sunrise like i do cos my fitness wasn't there... could not reach the top to shoot sunrise in time. It's a different ball game when u are climbing mountains.

and oh, btw, i only brought one lens which is 17-40 but I am using a FF.

Ah sorry for the mistake.. i meant 17-40L..
Anyways.. looks like 10-22mm and 17-40mm...
I hope i dont regret not bringing my 18-200mm with me.
    Thanks!!

leave the 17-40L at home, it does not offer much usability over the 18-200 in terms of focal range.

if you really wanna bring the L along, i rather you just go with the 10-22 only.

I will suggest that you consider bringing 18-200 along instead of 17-40.

This year is my 4th attempt, this year I have training and preparations. I reach the summit quite effortlessly. I think the Nepal trekking trip also have a part to play in my altitude management and the trekking fitness is still there... although a bit slower then those youngsters, I manage to reach summit at 6am...

Laban Rata, base camp for trekker to feast and rest for the arduous trek from Kinabalu park up... and to prepare them for the early morning climb up the summit...

Sunset from the other side of the mountain...

Take a closer look at the right face of this rock hill, does it look like a skull?
