I am a cat person, but if there are dogs available, I don't mind the practice.....
shutter speed too slow. 1/125 extreme L-R light setup doesn't work because theres no light to fill the eyes 1 eye missing a catchlight ok, all eyes with catchlights... |

You can use a white board or aluminium foil to reflect some light onto the eyes. That normally solve the problem of catchlight if you do not have a reflector. Alternatively, position your light more frontal of the doggies.
