Wait for a full review of E-300. If you don't really need the "pro-spec", the saving from E-300 can be used to buy lenses, flash etc.

The E1 has a 'Eliptical ring of focus points' whilst the 300 only has 3. I think the E1 focuses much faster than the 300 but maybe its because the E1 I tried has the battery pack which brings up the voltage to 9 volts. Allan |

i vote for the E1. more of a personal preference, its sleek, smooth & stealth in operation.
on top of it all, its very robust. i have been carrying it around with me all the time in an ordinary bag with no padding or whatsoever. many knocks & still hasn't failed me. very confident with the build quality. colour & WB r spot on, tho i haven't tried an E300 yet.but if u r into the MP race, then the answer is clear. for me, film still better in that respect. ![]() |

The E300 has very impressive IS400 and ISO 800 whilst the E1's ISO 400 is not good in terms of noise. I have decided to use my E300 permenantly in ISO 400 mode for now. Allan |

I just shot hundreds of images all over Dominica and Saba with the E1,14-54 and 50-200 zoom and 50/f2 macro I'd received from Photocraft days before flying there. The outfit--in Adorama very functional Slinger's bag--performed flawlessly through muddy mountain hikes in driving rain and couintless bucking, road air and boat trips. Wouldn't give it up for the world, the ergonomics, viewfinder and colour are superb. But you are right: the noise at higher. Good to know that the E300 could be added to this very portable outfit to make up this shortfall.

E-1 ! E-1 !! E-1 !!!
Nightpiper has got all the reasons listed out. If budget is not a concern, E-1 is a better choice. You won't regret forever !! Last edited by cookiez; 16th January 2005 at 01:08 PM. |

If you can afford the E-1 over the E300, of course, get the E-1, it has a super solid pro body and has better image quality. But it is likely that Olympus will be launching a new pro model to replace the E-1 this year, so it could be a better idea to find out more about such plans as it mean you can get the E-1 cheaper when the new model comes out or go for the new model.
