Default Sigma 17-35mm f/2.8-4 EX DG Aspherical HSM

I have a Sigma 18-125mm and wonder whether it is worth while getting this lens. Besides being a faster lens, how's the quality say within the same focal length?

I'll stick to my Sigma 18-125mm after reading some threads on it. Save the $$$ for something else.

I'm revisiting my post.

Any comments/pictures from users on this lens. I'm thinking of getting this as an indoor lens. I love my Sigma 18-125mm but the focusing is a little slow.

How's the focusing speed of this Sigma 17-35mm f/2.8-4 EX DG Aspherical HSM?

Think you should just go for the canon 17-40 f4L. It loses a stop but the quality is assured. Focusing, with USM, is of course fast. And resale value is definitely better with Canon lenses.

Good opportunity to get one for < 1000 now. Quite a number of sellers.

A brand new Canon 17-40 f4L I can't afford. 2nd hand on the other hand maybe can consider since is about 100-200 more compared to a brand new Sigma 17-35mm. I have not doubt about the capability of the Canon Lens after reading so much good reviews from users.

I wanted to find out how this Sigma lens fair in terms of performance. Like sharpness, focusing speed and vignetting. Resale value aside. If the Sigma performance is close to that of Canon than I would prefer to get the Sigma brand new than a 2nd hand Canon.

Anyone know of any link that has these 2 lenses being compared side by side?

Thanks for the info.

Question:
a) Is the focusing speed fast? No mention of it in it's specification.
b) Minimum focusing distance is 30cm compared to Sigma at 27cm.
Does this affect the magnification factor much?
