Default M43 lens kit for travelling

    Hi all,

    first post in Club Snap1

i was just wondering if you guys can advice on what is a good lens to have for traveling. especially if i don't want to carry too many lens.
    I current kit consist of
    Olympus epl 1
    14-42 kit lens
    panasonic 20mm pancake.

    I am sort of torn between a super zoom like olympus 14-150mm / a telezoom 40-150mm / olympus 45mm prime, olympus 9-18mm wa / olympus 12mm.

I shoot mainly people with buildings and inside malls and restaurants, so basically a typical traveler

Thanks for your advice in advance pple!

I would suggest getting the Oly 14-150mm lens as it is a general purpose lens.

Also get a point and shoot camera as a backup, my recommendation is the Canon S100, small, GPS and F2 lens.

    HTH.

    Thanks HTH for your reply.

i have read that the 45mm is a must have lens. do you think that lens will be suitable for my requirements?
and just out of curiosity, what would be your idea travel kit?

    thanks for sharing!

if you only carry 2 lenses, and on budget,
    9-18mm, 40-150mm

if u want to carry 3 lenses, add 20mm to the list.

if you only carry 2 lenses, and deeper pocket,
    7-14mm, 14-140mm

if u want to carry 3 lenses, add either 20mm/25mm to the list.

45mm on 2x crop factor is quite a tight focal length, best as portrait lens, for street use not as suitable imo.

if you want to splurge, get the 7-14mm or 12mm f2.0

Your current lenses are fine what. If you need greater focal range, then either get an additional telephoto lens (45-200mm, 45-175mm etc), or bring a 14-150mm instead of the 14-42mm. I think the 20mm will be very useful for indoor/low light situations and should form part of your kit. If you also want UWA, then have to add a third lens lor, what to do.

    heya!!

It's seriously personal preference but I would recommend the oly 9-18mm and the PL 25mm! PL25 is good for low light situations and a WA is always good to have when you wanna take buildings and such. and if cost is a factor, you can always rent the lenses from camera rental center or some other equivalent if you don't want to buy the lenses without trying em out first. =D
