I did some CCD testing at the shop before I picked up the best
of a few E-300s that was at the store.. Xchanged 1 lens with
another box as I spotted so many 'bird's nest' in one lens.

Caution for new users:
* Do not leave the E300 blowing in the wind when changing lens
Treat it as though it has no dust filter/blocker.

-- Oly SG Verified with me the system REDUCES dust contamination
it does NOT prevent the dust from going in 100%

My unit is made in China

Oly Sg says that other expensive lens will be made in cheaper non
weather proof versions in the coming months.

My friend got 6 other guys to buy the E-300. But I am unsure if
they are on clubsnap.

E-1 is weather sealed and so the chances of dust getting onto the ccd is less, but E-300 is not weather sealed. That might be the problem.

cheers

Hi
I just discovered some HOT pixels on my E-300

When you take a photo of a BLACK paper it will show..
Shoot in RAW and you will see them. In contrast my Nikon D70
upto today has 0 hotspots.

ASA 100 = White dots
ASA 200 = Blue dots
ASA 400 = Very bright dots

Using this E-300 in super close up Macro may be a big problem if hot pixels
exist in the WRONG SPOT.

Can you try to exchange it? I am sure Olympus will honour their warranty.

That firmware is for E-1 and not for E-300. There isn't any for E-300 as yet.

Hey Steve!

Were you there too!? I was there to pick up a pocket digital camera and saw the launch. But didn't stay. Was gone by 7.45 pm.

So I assume you have added this to your arsenal as well?

Cheers,

Yup. I will be trying this new 'weapon' out on the fishies once my 50mm Marco lens arrived from the States. Think it has already landed in Singapore according to the cargo tracking info. Then again... maybe not so fast... still no external flash available at the moment !

The Oly SG guys said that 'E system REDUCES dust' does NOT 'Prevent dust'

However the Brochure says 'Reduces dust and Eliminates the problem of dust'
anyway regardless, treat it as a Normal system and the dust WILL STAY AWAY LONGER because of the shield.

Hi,

Anyone else encountered the same problem as Alan Teo did? I will take a pic with the lens cap on and post it here so that people can compare and if we all find hot pixel then jump at Oly

cheers

Is it in the specs that there is to be no hot pixels for long exposure shots?
Would it help if Noise Reduction is turned on?
