Question EOS : custom curve?

was pondering through this issue...nikon dslrs can all load custom curves, one of the benefits being less postprocessing being need to be done to correct for tones, etc. in fact its entirely possible to load a custom curve, cover an event, come back, take a quick look at all the shots, everything looks nice and good, dont even have to adjust anything in photoshop, just batch sharpen the whole pile of photos and the work is done in a jiffy so far as i know, for EOS series, only 1D series can load custom curves. for 300d, d30, d60, 10d, 20d - at best can only fine tune the parameters via the canon software.

so..has anyone tried finetuning the parameters such that the effect is as good as having loaded a custom curve ala nikon style? for example, say somebody loads the "velvia curve" into say a d100, shoots with proper exposure, and gets velvia styled pictures straight from the camera. then is there an equivalent setting for ..say 10d, such that the particular combination of parameters, when preset on the 10d, will give also the "same" velvia styled photos straight out from the camera?

If you check out Fred Miranda has couple of actions for velvia, etc..
The result could be better..

As you said custom curve is only available on EOS 1 series DSLR.

Then again it only useful if you shoot in JPEG.

It is as useful as setting the sharpening, contrast, etc on any camera. It reduces the effort when post processing, RAW or JPEG. More useful especially when doing direct printing that ironically, Canon printers promote.

The curve does not have any effect if you shoot in RAW (unless you post process them in DPP or EVU)... anyway, there's parameter settings in those camera that works just fine.

Well, when used with Nikon Capture, it by default is applied when converting to JPG or TIFF from RAW (therefore the "reduce effort" comment), besides the mass application (with dissimilar results) post-processing in any format, JPG, TIFF or RAW. The parameters in the camera cannot change the response like a curve can.

Also, the changes can be applied without a computer when printing to printers with the PictBridge which as I had mentioned, ironically championed by Canon.

good for ya and Nikon users lor.

Anyway there's no custom curve that will help make any bad pix good. Use what you have, not moan what you don't have.... in the end, your client wants to see is the end result!
