The Tanager is shy by nature and its coloration makes it hard to recognize against a dark woodland background. These birds are lively, restless birds with alert curious natures. They usually occur in loose flocks. They ususally seek out food in the upper part of the canopy, hopping along branches there and grabbing spiders and other inverterbrates as well as seeking berries and fruits. I happened to catch one resting on the branch, after its beautiful plumage caught my attention.

That bird is a Spangled Cotinga. Latin name: Cotinga cayana (Linnaeus, 1766).
It is from South America. There is one and only one place to find that bird in Singapore.....in the Jungle Jewels Aviary in Jurong Bird Park. ![]() |
