Hi,
I own the kit lens that comes with the D70 (AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm f / 3.5-4.5G IF-ED) and I was just wondering something about its' focal range... What is the effective focal range if this camera is used on my D70? Isit 18-70mm or 27 - 105mm? I understand that there is a 1.5 multiplication factor for the D70. Also, can DX lenses be used on a film body (say my F80) without problems? Regards. |

Real physcial focal lenght is 18-70, but due to the smaller sensor, it acts like a 27mm - 105mm lens on a regular film body, like ur F80, reason being what u stated, the 1.5x crop factor
All lenses use the 135/35mm format of labeling focal lenghts(without multiplying 1.5)... even DX lenes No you cannot use the lens on the F80... if you did u would get very very very bad vignnetting... a nice black "frame" around your picture...this is due to a smaller image circle that will not cover the whole film neg. Hmmm... So far there isn't any "50mm" lens for the DSLRs yet is there? Cos if I were to fit a 50mm 1.8D for example, this will effectively become a 75mm lens.. |

If anyone's interested, I saw a used 28/1.4 @ Prime Camera few days ago going for $2200. Yeah, the 35/2 is also a good choice. Dunno how much it goes for tho, but should be pretty reasonable.

That's my dilema now: to get 50mm and settle for a 72mm picture angle or a 35mm to get a 52mm picture angle. But the key factor is the subject size: correct me if I am wrong on this - the 35mm would give you a smaller subject size than the 50mm right if you were to frame it at the same distance right (never mind the crop or focal length)?
