U can call CP since they are the agent. The last time I checked (in late Nov), they mentioned that it should be available in Jan 05, but no pricing yet.

Yup, and build quality is Tokina's ATX Pro standard...as always.

Got this info from the japanese web site

"Professional Wide Zoom Lens For DIGITAL (APS-C FORMAT)"

Does this mean that it is a "DX" lens and cannot be used on Film SLRs?

The results from the test are most peculiar. The nikon is performing poorly at 18 and 24mm contrary to its reputation of being an excellent performer at 24mm.

Either the samples are mixed-up/swapped, or the nikon 12-24 they have is faulty.

The tokina walks all over the nikon at all focal lengths and all apertures from these samples provided, all this at 1/2 the price..... seems too good to be true.

Besides myself, many can confirm that Nikon 12-24 perform great from 18-24. Read Bjørn Rørslett's review here.

Yes, I believe most nikon users would have read Bjorn and Thom's reviews of the lens. I think what most would be interested in is the actual experiences of owners and if there are such variances between samples.

Perhaps some 100% crops at the same focal lengths and apertures would be helpful.

Since you asked, below are some images from my own personal collection. Let me state their status: They are as unedited as possible. The cropped sample is taken approximately from the colored areas in the reduced images, and done at 100% in PNG. I can provide proof in the EXIF if needed.

Originally written as JPEG files will have the following settings:
- Size: large. Quality: fine

RAW is processed by ACR ver 2.3, with no change to the default settings.

Ok let's get started

1) At the Asian Aerospace at the start of the year, I took this JPEG image with the following settings:
- 12mm, f/13, 1/640 sec, sharpening: auto

100% crops:

Comments: With the sky as the backlight, there is no significant CA seen in any of the crops.

2) At my trip to Melbourne, I took this picture of Luna Park @ St Kilda Beach. The original is in RAW, without any sharpening. The images, both the reduced size and the cropped ones here have zero sharpening.

The setting is: 18mm, f/8, 1/640 sharpening - none

100% crops:

Comments: as you can see, the text on the lower left side crop can be read easily, and that the light bulbs in the crop on the upper right side can be discern.

3) This image was taken facing the Docklands, with Telstra Dome on the lower right. Again, original is RAW, with NO sharpening applied any time.

The settings: 12mm, f/8, 1/400, sharpening - none

Comments: Noticed that you can count the floors and see the window panes of the building in the lower left crop. If you do leveling and sharpening, you can see a crane, a cruise ship and three oil storage tanks in the mid-left crop. In the mid left crop, you can see the Telstra sign and count the floors on the Dockland condo block just above it.

4) Final one is a church taken at the corner of Pelham and Rathdown St in Carlton. Again, another RAW.

The settings: 24mm, f/9, 1/250 sharpening - none

Comments: This image was taken about 25m diagonally across from the church. Notice that the lower left crop, you can see the brick lines. The top center crop exhibit no CA and still you can see the brick lines. With the mid lower crop, you can read the sign yourself, even the time of the "School Zone"
