Hi,
Nice work in B&W, but the third picture seems to have vertical banding! ![]() Was that intentional? ![]() Cheers, Nick

The third shot doesn't really work for me. Just my personal taste.

Same thing dude, 3rd shot doesn't work for me either, I'm ok with the lines, but not the 'scratches'.
Overall, nice tones & contrast, moment shots are nicely done, but I think ur series is in complete without some toast/teasing towards the end, when's your next event? ![]() |

Hi guys...
some really old aquaintances here... how are you ruthbaby... havent heard from you in a long while... That is a cigarette cabi...yup... nice feature item for the home. IPersonally, I was a bit hesitant on the 3rd pic as well... I will definately work on it and make it more "real" I think Michael is right abt the cracking bit...not too realistic. =) I will also try and load some toasting shots later tonight.... |

Nice shots you have here, yet again!
Do you shoot in colour and convert to BW? |

3rd shot - make it softer, the lenses of old not so sharp. Yellow it a bit, and reduce the contrast - how can so old still not faded. And of course the halter top and bare shoulders are far too daring for those times - leads to cognitive dissonance (ie "eh?") in the viewer's mind.

Get the free OpticVerve Lab's Virtual Photographer plugin for PS, it does wonders to your colour -> b&w conversion.
Part of the nostalgic effect of b&w photos is the grain itself rather than the lines/banding. You could try a little dodging and burning to bring out the tonality, as well as restore those clipped highlight areas. For me, #10 feels more like a b&w photo than the rest, partly because of the lighting... personally, I do find digital shots taken with flash a little difficult to do a convincing mono conversion. |

Hi canturn,
great to hear from the specialist in this field...hahah... agreed. I think B&W works best without flash...and with grains. Actually, I didnt set this out to be a B&W series. Its just that I decided to just convert all just to break from the monotony of posting these wedding series. I actually delievered the photos in color. I will however, convert the whole of Rachel and Lye Sheng to B&W cos I think that series is perfect for that. Will post when I can. =) Cheers and thanks for the advise on OpticVerve... I actuallky use Fred M's Black and White Plug in... |

kelvin, for 3rd pic, i think if normal potrait shots (the bride really look at you type) is more appropriate with old pics look. i normally use channel mixer to do my b&w conversion. good work and keep it up!
