I have stopped carrying my compact camera in favor of my Apple iPhone 4S.
After watching the video I still will want a high end compact. The accessories shown aren't really that compact and setting up might be slower than say just take out a pns , switch on and shoot. Some accessories aren't that cheap also.
Lastly depending on what you are shooting, I still prefer a device with optical zoom.
To me the beauty of mobile phone camera (photography) is the convenience of just bring 1 phone and doubling it as camera. But that advantage might be lost if you have to bring quite a number of accessories along and it may not be pocketable anymore.
oh yes, the compact I got for myself Canon S95 makes very good traveling companion should DSLR is too bulky. For me, getting good quality image is important, but portability also makes very important feature. If it's not about making nice scenery but rather memories, I think small compacts are a lot more versatile than DSLR. I basically forgo my Nikon DSLR for my Canon Compact when I made a trip to Krabi and Bangkok awhile ago.
still holding on to my S7000 and F200EXR. my dad loves the S7000 and my F200EXR's fantastic.
when i go clubbing/pubbing i carry the F200EXR. i used to carry that for gatherings and other outings with friends... but since i'm getting the NEX-7 and i've got a compact sling bag, i decided to use the NEX-7 instead
When that compact is an x100 or similar sized sensor+formfactor
now that the quality of compacts and mirrorless are getting better, would you prefer to bring along either instead of lugging along your DSLR?
regardless of the image quality, the camera that get used most often is the one that is easy to bring along anywhere and readily available to you.
my Canon dslr is pretty compact (to my standards), anything smaller than that is considered microscopic.
