Default Any body ever try to snap welding with D70?

Any body ever try to snap welding with D70?

I know if you look straight at it will damage the eye. If the light hits the CCD, will it also "blind" the camera?

dunno what you meant but CCD is meant to capture light. it's light sensitive. and why would looking at a camera damage the eye?

Definitely don't look directly at it through the camera but rather other surrounding areas to compose the image. Also, meter on the surrounding area and not on the welding itself as that will come out totally under exposed. Couple of examples below taken with the D1H:

Welding at night...

Flame cutting...

On the issue of damage to the CCD, no it will not.

painful burning sensation, looking for a while is okay, too long and it will burn your eyes. The temp from welding is about thousand plus degrees. (if my memory serves me right)

Never look at the welding flame unless you are wearing the appropriate eye protection... not even for a few seconds. The light intensity can permanently damage/scar the back of your retina leaving you with a localised blind spot. Note that this applies to all forms of welding: Stick Arc, Gas Tungsten Arc (TIG), Gas Metal Arc (MIG), Gas welding, etc...

You'll see spots for a few hours; the spots are temporary, the damage is permanent. The eyes instinctively closes-up to reduce the amount of light received when directly looking at overly-strong light sources. Welding generates a bright spot of light, similar to looking directly at the afternoon Sun. The human eye is not meant to look at these things unprotected.

As for the camera, it has never gone bad from taking too many sunrise, sunsets or the mid-day sun.

the effect will be the same as the light hitting your eye.

the cam will likely operate at a very high shutter speed, thus limiting the time, and amount of light hitting the ccd.
the same effect as you shutting your eyes very quickly when you look at the welding.

try setting it on bulb and point it at the welding. that'll damage the ccd.
