Default IF D70 had a V.Grip..

what would you like to have on the D70 grip if anyone intends to make one?

I wish....

- Full press shutter release (dUh, else what for right?)
- half press auto-focus
-
-
-
-
-

I'm just gathering some reponse to see if developing a v/grip is feasible and what features can be implemented. (R & D cost is going to be high)
of course.. connection would be by the USB port. so there'll be a wire from the grip to the USB port.

If nothing works out.. still it's good to have a fanatsy of a v/grip

haha, so many posts on vertical grip for the D70, this just goes to show how high on the wishlist it is for D70ers.

i disagree abt it being a marketing mistake though. the cam is close to 1 year old already, and look at it's sales, still quite phenomenal. this says that they've achieved their aim.

it's delibarately excluded so as to allow them to market their next models/levels differently.

yah the VG featured operates thru IR. Therefore, no half press feature.

What I intend to develop is a full feature grip that can set ISO and picture quality stuff etc.. That is why it will communicate thru the USB port. No modifications needed.

But seems like someone expects a D200 to be launched. So D70 grip no longer viable?

The entire product cycle (from design to production) will take at least 6 months. mmm..

D200 (or some say D90) is the next level in the product range. will likely be close to double the price of the D70.

so a grip for the D70 will still be the cheaper and more viable option, if it can be manufactured.

Yes sales is so much more, but without the grip now will frustrate even much much more!

haha, let's hope nikonians are a nice, forgiving lot who'll willingly run to the Buy and Sell forum and dump their D70s to upgrade instead of raising a stink.

unfortunately, customers elsewhere don't seem to be so nice.

Yah it's just a simple embedded system. microprocessor control USB OTG controller in host mode. When buttons on the grip are pressed, commands will be issued to through the usb port to the D70.

Will not know the limitations until the project is started.

other then halfpress and main/sub dial, it'll be good if it have such features:

- change AF mode
- shows ISO, metering mode, AF mode at the back
- load several custom curves into the grip, then we choose which 1 to use and grip will upload to cam
- several "profiles", something like bank1/bank2 on D100
- AE-L/AF-L
- AF-On
- of course, when we press the ISO/WB/QUAL/etc. on the main cam, the dials on the grip can be used as well
- Func button (a small button in front of the grip, somewhere at the fourth finger) that can be set to custom function such as FV-lock, Flash off, Bkt, etc.
- change AF-C/AF-S
- flash sync terminal
- cable release
- wireless G-transmitter
- voice memo
- more accurate battery meter
- allowance for hand strip
- also remember that some ppl might swap main/sub dial on cam

might as well i get a d2h
