Default lu kong si mi?

har? g lens vs d lens?

g = aperture of lense = electronically controlled ONLY from cam body.

d = lense that has distance info sent to the cam... primarily for flash work.

er....

think u meant to ask something else???

Either he's on crack or you misinterpreted his comments.

He might have been comparing a specific lens, e.g 70-300G vs 70-300D but you assumed it was across the board.

If that were true, than the 80-200 D would be better than the 70-200 G.

In a way it might be about lens quality too apart from format and function in that you could use both the D or G lens with a DSLRs but you can only use a D lens with SLRs. G lens are built to cater to the CCD size. The 1.5X maginification. If you place a G lens onto a SLRS like say the F5 or F90.you get this distorted fisheye like image in your viewfinder and also what will be capture on 35mm film.

I hear some of these saying about the quality of the lens of the G before and I think it is more about how the glass are built to optimise its use on a DSLR. How true I am not too sure though I have been playing SLRs for year previously but I have never bought a G lens back then to place on any of my SLRs. But if there is any quality drop I would say this might be that they compare the finish results and when you do that...35mm would still be better in quality, tone and sharpness compared to digital.

Frankly I a sick of all this stuff these day with the labelling. There was a time when a 50mm IS A 50mm. A 24mm wide IS a 24mm wide lens. Now with a D on a normal SLRs the rating is right but on a DSLR it is 1.5X. Why can;t they just call it as it is when they come out with the G lense. SInce it is catering to the new generation of DSLR then call it by it's actual focal length. It is not like you could use that on a SLRs. When will this stop? I bet just when we like some trained animal has gotten used to this silly 1.5x focal length thingy..they will all of a sudden change back to the old way...and yes maybe force us to throw away our old lens again to start going on a roti diet again to re-build our len collections.

G and D lenses can be used across ALL Nikon F-mount SLRs including FA,FM,FE bodies, just that for the manual bodies, you can only shoot at min aperture of f/22.

You clearly have mistaken DX with G lenses.

Opps...I forgot about that bit. You got a point there bro. I am still in the mode that G and DX are the same. My mistake.

Just to clarify, DX lenses meant more for digital.

If a DX is used on a film SLR the pictures may have a black border appearring?

Sorry to add to the confusion if any.

heh..nah...Since my venture into D70 ..it was the only time I have a lens with the G label. I have been using AIs and AF and D all the time...so when I jump "ship" to DSLRs, for some reason I associate the G with DX. Maybe it was because still had my F5 and FM2 and when I place that G DX kit lens on them, I got this distorted image in the viewfinder heheh So some how I associate the G to be in compatible to SLRs.n n

Frankly...if I ave a choice... I would stick to a D or G and not take the DX if possible for my future lens purchases. AT least if I want to go back to 35mm..I can still keep my lens.

For the benefit of those who still confused...

What is a Nikon AF-G lens?

What is a "D" lens?

What do the terms ED-IF, DX, AF-S, etc. in the Nikon lens names mean?

YES that's right....haha THIS I am very sure as I have place my D70's kit lens on my 35mm SLRs. You get that look like viewing the image through a door's peep hole.

All G lenses are D lenses w/o aperture ring.

G lens will be the future of the lens. since new body no need the Ring.
new bodies are fully compatible with G.

how good is the lens is not depending on G or D.
G lens is new than D.
normal D lens's buiding quality is better than G since there is not such cost effective concept when D was introduced. but this concept already exist when G become popular.
D times all metal. some new version of D start to use plastic. the age of G is mixed with metal and plastic.
but G also got its advantages: no need to build one ring and internal hardware functions can trim the size the lens, just like the slim size of the 70-200VR.
missing one ring will not give u worse picture quality just like some lens no ED glass, but it is the top level lens.

for normal lens it is still better to buy D version brand new in shop because of its building quality.
a good lens must last for decade.

For me, i still prefer the good old F-Mount versions.

Can use with my old F601

The new G lenses cannot work with my old F601 as there is not aperture ring
