I was thinking to buy a speedlight flash for my D70 but my budget is only $300++, I think should be enough to buy SB-80DX(2nd hand) or SB600. Any advice or recomendation?

SB800 2nd hand price won't be anywhere near $300+ soon, unless it's real beaten up.
SB-600 is around the region of $360. |

i think an external flash is one of the best things u can get after getting the camera. well, between the sb80dx and sb600, sb80dx got more GN, but sb600 allows TTL use with ur D70

what i suggest is that get the SB800. no regret. definately you can ask the buyer here who had regretted buying SB800. Pain once better than twice. If the you get the SB600 i guess you will be in trouble one day if you wanna sell it away and get the SB800.
trust me good buy..... |

Actually both are fine, but you will only get i-TTL with SB-600 and SB-800, go for the SB-600 if you don't need the features of SB-800.
I'll go along with the rest that the $200+ extra spent on SB-800 over SB-600 is definitely worth it however, but it's you who need it, so just get whichever suits you ![]() |

so what is the main difference between SB-600 and SB-800 ???
if for normal usage, like shooting indoors, potraits etx, is SB-600 sufficient? what is the additional functions of SB-800 over SB-600 ? for the SB-600, do i get the white bounce card, etc ? thanks

I plan to get the sb800 later. If you're just starting out with a budget, the SB600 will do quite nicely. I found a lot of use for it. Covers wedding photos all the way to daylight nature shots, it is a great companion for the D70.
You really only need the SB800 when you want to remotely control a few SB600s. So, get the SB600 first because you can always use it again when you upgrade to SB800. |

It is obvious that SB800 is better than SB600...but u should buy the one that u need..not to buy the one that it is the best.. If u choose SB800 because it is the best Flash..the u should not buy D70..since D70 is not the best Nikon DSLR...I belive u bought it because D70 should do enough for u..and it is at your budget range. |

May I know what are:
- Auto i-TTL? - Repeating Flash? The above are 2 of the many features that differentiate 600 & 800. I won't mind if I can't control another flash(es), as I probably will be using only one. But would like to find out more on the differences before making decision. |

cool john i definately will watch out for ya sale...
basically sb800 is a stronger flash with the ability to be used with a batt pack... comes with diffuser and coloured gels... it also has strobo flash... can also be used as main flash in CLS sb600 recycles faster coz output is not as much...works with more film models ...can only be used as a strobe flash in CLS... 300++ get the sb600....i am not really a flash user....thus the sb 600 is a good and cheap flash to get when i do need it....juz my opinion... cheers... |

just like the rest, i also strongly advocate that you only get a flash which is as powerful as you need.
the SB600 will fit nicely into your budget. and truth be told, more often than not, it's power will suffice. |

For a budget of $300++, I would recommend the SB-600. The SB-80DX that you are considering second hand is hampered on the D70 as it can only be used in Manual or Automatic mode (You will have to set aperture, zoom and ISO manually on the flash) |

The SB600 would suffice for most direct flash purposes, but if you start bouncing, you may find that it may not suffice for many locations. |
