I believe many people are anticipating the D800 announcement today, so it's not a surprise.

By using the B frame data compression method, you can record 1080p Full HD video at 30p in H.264/MPEG-4 AVC format with unmatched moving image integrity for up to approx. 29 min. 59 s* of recording in a single clip

*Maximum recording time varies according to frame rate, frame size and image quality settings. Maximum recording time for time-lapse photography is 20 min.

"Audio output levels can be adjusted with 30 steps for precise audio adjustment and monitoring. The D800 offers high-fidelity audio recording control with audio levels that can be set and monitored on the camera’s LCD screen. A microphone connected via the stereo mic jack can also be adjusted with up to 20 steps of sensitivity for accurate sound reproduction. " very important enhancement for video recording..

I agree! The D800 is a way better release than the D4.

The price looks fair too if you consider medium format prices.

    Plus the video! Ahh!

But on the other hand, the flower pattern on the red cloth is definitely sharper on the D800E. Though yes, the moire is ugly.

At 36mp, lens sharpness is of paramount importance, and removing the AA filter definitely helps to improve the sharpness of pictures for not so sharp lens and even the gold ring lenses... No doubt there's Moire, but it can be taken care of digitally, the capture NX gona have an update to take care of the Moire, so end result is sharper pics on the D800E!

In stock photography sales, bigger pictures sell at higher prices, even if it's the same picture as a smaller sized one, so this 36mp is really dam useful $$$$ wise for me! Higher megapixels rocks! I want 100mp!!!

Why would Nikon release the D800E with the anti-aliasing (AA) filter removed? The simple answer is to produce sharper images with more details and better resolution. The AA filter removes information that cannot be recorded "correctly" by the sensor. It's basically an extra layer on top of the sensor that reduces the image quality in order to remove certain undesired artifact. If you remove the AA filter, the drawback is that you can get moire patterns in certain situations (see example above)
