    Default Ultra Compact Choice?

Which would you decide if you want a slim and powerful 4.0 megapixel ultra compact to carry with you in your pocket?

    1. Canon Ixus40

    2. Olympus 410

    3. Olympus D580

    4. Olympus C-60

    6. Panasonic Lumix FX2

The important features I am looking for are:
    a) can go as close to the subject as possible 3-6cm
    b) a fast zoom lens from f/2.8 - f/4.9
    c) good color with at least a shooting speed of 2 fps
    d) low noise even at ISO 200
    e) rugged metal body
    f) low battery consumption (either on Lithium-Ion or AA batteries.
    g) any storage media (either CF, SD, MMC or xD)

U can also consider Sony T3, the slim and tiny digicam.

Default Higher megapixel is not necessary

I won't consider it. There is also the T11 along with the T3 both of which are 5.0 megapixel.

Not even the Panasonic FX-7 which seems to have too much noise once you go higher than ISO100.

Perhaps, manufacturers will have to listen to the consumers who are actually using their products. What are they looking for?
