backpacks have a look at lowepro series, they have a ton. but i personally like think tank, but no money. haha.

Sling can try the all time fav crumpler 5-7million dollar home. Timbuk2 have some as well. Or u can save money put inserts into ur messenger bag to convert it into one.

Got myself a 2nd hand versapak backpack at a discounted price.Well backpack has a better weight distribution than sling bag.Duration of yr outing, ease of accessing yr cam gear are some factors to consider. For my case,I still have room for my water bottle, brolly n other personal stuff after putting my cam gear n tripod.

For something so light, I'd just sling the camera on my neck.

Anyway, I prefer to pack light, so a small sling bag like a 5 Million Dollar Home is sufficient.

I think backpacks are only used when transporting tons of gear, and perhaps really large lenses. I honestly do not see a use of it locally - unless you like to bring everything you have along with you.

I would use a backpack if I am engaged professionally overseas. (i'd probably need a good number of lenses and dSLR bodies couple that with all the hassle of traveling ) Otherwise, a 7 Million Dollar Home is more than sufficient for local assignments.

Sling bags are also handier too. Just reach to your side for your gear. You'd need to remove your backpack from your back to get what you need.

Having said that, a backpack is certainly more comfortable to move around... Sling bags place weight on only 1 side. But I pack light, so it's fine.

For long duration comfort, a backpack is better as it allows the camera, lens and accessories weight to be distributed evenly over both shoulders. It also frees up both hands for other tasks. You have to un-mount the backpack from your back when you need to access the camera.

For easy access to your gears during shooting, a shoulder bag is more desirable as the equipment is easily reached. After a long duration of slugging the bag around, you'll feel the ache on the one shoulder bearing all the weight of the camera bag.

our bros have gave you advice and recommendation above.. so its really up to you
backpack and slingbag can easily accomodate ur current gears.. it just which style you prefer

i myself use insert into my sling bag... and i can put it into my ordinary backpack too..

if you like backpack.. there alot of models that you can access easily ur cam at the side without unmount it.. eg Kata 3in1 series..

i use a lowepro slingshot 100. if u must take both ur lenses, u might the slingshot 200. love the design, the all-weather cover is great, ive many times had to use that protection, and its done a great job so far. like someone already mentioned, if ur gear weighs a lot, u might want a backpack to distribute weight on both shoulders.. but with ur setup, which is very similar to mine, ive lasted quite a while with the sling bag and had no pains bear in mind u wont be carrying the full weight in ur bag, as ur gonna be shooting as well!

As a newbie, u will definitely have problems deciding on what bag to buy.

But let me tell u that u will end up with both bags. Because each bag serve diff purpose and u will have to buy both at the end of the day

U may buy the shoulder bag coz it's slim, lightweight... As time goes by, u will realize yr shoulder and body will ache, u can't put many things into a shoulder bag coz of weight problem, u can't put yr tripod as well.

Then u end up buying another backpack.....

Meh. Kata 3n1 series is good for those who want accessibility and backpacking. NO, backpack is not only for a lot of gear, but rather if you have a large lens mounted into your camera and don't want to waste time setting up your camera. I personally own a kata 3n1 30 and it carries everything I need around, with spare space for a lot of other stuff. I also bought a digital holster 50 for the sake of events, where I bring the backpack but walk around with a holster. It's really up to you what you're using your camera for and what environment it will be in. If its very crowded and squeeze chances are you wouldn't want to bring a huge backpack that you have to unmount and open just to expose your gear

I have both sling and backpack... depending on the occassion, I decide on which bag to bring.

Normally I would go with my Tamrac backpack... and on vacation overseas, it is the Tamrac no question ask. For normal street photography, I tends to bring my sling bag (either the free Canon one or a DIY one).
I am not a photographer, just someone who happened to have a couple of cameras.

Yeah lor. I have 2 bags now and resisting to buy any more.

Just like the TS, I also went thru the dilemma of buying a bag. End up I bought one each, coz I realize each bag serves a diff purpose.

    My backpack
    My Slingbag

Backpack --> used when traveling overseas to hold all my gear.
Slingbag --> everyday bag when going to work. I love this bag.
I remove the insert and put it into my ordinary backpack over the weekends when I'm out with family.

    yup. there isn't one.

you need to get a bag for every different purpose.

i have a TT Streetwalker HD for when i carry my laptop and other miscellaneous stuff with me, and the Billingham Hadley Pro for when i'm just traveling light.

for when i know it's gonna rain and i need to carry more stuff, i have my Timbuk2 Lite Brite messenger with Matin inserts
