any1 got this lens?
how do u find the lens? cos took a few pics this weekend and found the internal reflections quite a prob... wondering if its juz my lens or a generic prob for this lens. This only happens when im taking subjects against strong backlight.. cos my smc tak 50/1.4 dun seem to have this prob. if its a isolated case, i can still change it at CP. I do have the lens, I am very satified with it. The performance is similiar to FA50/1.4. But I never shoot photos with it towards strong light.
Are you using the lens with DSLR? It maybe the source. |

I don't use a filter on the Pentax 50mm f1.7, not on the 100mm macro either, 'cause both have built-in lens hood. Cheers! |

i believe its the filter. will still mount a metal hood on top of it for protection. better safe than sorry. |

Any sample photo to show the 'internal reflection' you mentioned?

In my experience Pentax lenses very seldom ghosts and hardly suffers from internal reflection. The same cannot be said for most of its competitors.
It could just be whatever filter you have put on. If not, then your lens must be dirty. Give it a good dusting and wipe. |

Maybe the aperture blades and CCD sensor cause the ghost.

Hi, have seen the picture and certainly the fault lies within the filter. I have a similar problem when I did a lens test with a cheapo plastic filter that comes with the lens. Also do aware that placing filters (cokin type) too much a distance from lens front element create a double image problem, especially with digital cameras. |

It's a cheap lens anyway, no point to buy an expensive B+W filter for it I guess. No matter how good the filter is, it's still a piece of glass blocking the light But I do put B+W UV MRC filter on my 16-45DA lens though. |

HOYA(O) UV is already good enough for those consumer lens. A 49mm will not be expensive.

but i like taking pics w backlight though. if other filters produced such internal reflections n flare, will be better to invest in a better filter for protection.

Especially for this cheap 50mm f1.7 lens. I feel the front glass is not very easy getting scratched. How much is a brand new 50mm f1.7 lens anyway? I got it second hand with the D camera, so don't know how much it costs. Cheers! Last edited by fengwei; 1st December 2004 at 12:12 PM. |

its 268 after GST at CP. actually only 70-80 less than a 1.4. juz that both have been discontinued and CP only have the 1.7.

I've been using the FA 50 1.4 for years now. Certainly prefer it over the Nikon one. Always loved the fact that Pentax aperture rings provide the half stops.
Never used 'protective' filters over it, and with the usual dust and wipe the front element will look as pristine as new. If you ask me I'd say that such filters are not neccessary, since I would never be going into sandstorms, where glass coatings and everytihng else get eroded off. |
