well there is nothing wrong with someone who can't speak a language properly but tries anyway. the worst are those who look down on their own mother tongue with contempt and refuses to speak it even if they can.

Besides I thought Ng Eng Hen is a barbar.

MM Lee just admitted that not many people can be effectively bilingual.

way, way, too late for this realisation. how many singaporeans and their children now were/are pissed off by mandarin because of his policy. just because his son/s were effectively bilingual then, he assumed that the whole of singaporean chinese can be so too. what ignorance!

now, he told parents to gauge their children's capabilities. if they are wrong in their assessments, don't blame the government. i am pissed off again, the second time.

Not effectively bilingual, but there's the advantage of being able to understand another language.

Its sad, but where ppl used to be bi or even trilingual (a combination of Malay, English and Chinese), I see ppl now are struggling to be even bilingual (English and Chinese).

Although its a fact that a person's learning capability and mental capacity has a limit, it never hurts learning a new language.

P/S: Its very important when u wanna scold someone in an alien tongue and u do not want to risk offending the chap. Hehehe...
