I suppose we can't do away with a lot of things such as tripod, cleaning kit, bag, etc.

Seems like a lot of $$

    some points:
    - I survived for a long while on a single battery. DSLR battery really lasts a long time if you're not constantly reviewing shots on LCD, or using LiveView. Granted, a spare batt doesn't make a huge dent in the overall scheme of things ... haha.

    - Don't be in a rush to buy all the lenses at once. Take things slow. The lenses aren't gonna run anywhere. They'll still be on sale, or maybe a newer version will be out when you've finally decided to get one

    - HDD prices still a bit inflated due to supply problems over the past few months. May be wise to wait a while if you're not in a hurry.
    - don't forget post-processing software also costs money, especially if you're after the 'branded' stuff from Adobe, etc.
    Exploring! :)

Depends on whether I can get a good deal, I may try to grab them from hong kong at least that's the impression I get from other posts. About spare batt, you set me thinking and maybe I won't get it.

Sometime I wish when I am taking my first step into photography, some one come with his monopod and whack me at the head to drag me out.

So many things... body + grip, lens (UWA, tele, super tele, primes, macro), tripod, ball head, release plate, flash gun and diffuser, remote shutter release, filters (UV, ND, GND, CPL), dry cabinet, cleaning kit (blower, lenspen, microfabric clothes), straps, bags (backpack, sling, belt), PP softwares, monitor calibration kit.

Never heard of those when I still using my compact PNS.

Why not buy everything 2nd handed, you will save up to 70% of your total expenses. Be a smart buyer, not a new buyer. Cheers.

    But that's like saying

"when I used to ride my bicycle, I never heard about things like engine oil, timing belt, oil filter, spark plugs.... I wish someone hit me on the head when I decided to buy a car"

Since you already have made the move to owning a DSLR, don't regret la

The main reason I don't buy 2nd handed is because I am not too savvy and rather spend more to avoid the trouble.

Good point too. Which means you can take yr time and do more research b4 deciding if you can get 2nd hand items for certain things. My flash is 2nd hand and they still work fine.

My main concern is the lens. Is hard to see fine cracks and defects if I do not know what to look out for. To me, the additional money spent on first handed is worth it for the peace of mind.
