Considering getting the latest pixma printers, but my experience tells me that Canon prints usually fade after a few weeks, when exposed to the air. Do the latest pixma printers still have this problem?

My guess is that it's better now; if you take a look at the Canon website, for the i560, it says "Colours last up to 25 years when printed on Canon Photo Paper Pro". On the other hand, for the Pixma line of printers, it says "Archival quality of 100 years when printed on Canon Photo Paper Pro (PR-101)".
Anyone using a Pixma printer care to comment? |

Perhaps they tweaked the ink formulation? One thing's for sure... they changed the paper coating... that's why now it's 100 years archival... no reputable brand would risk claiming something it can't do...

Archival lifespan is based on proper storage and is based on accelerated light fade tests.
The more common cause is gas-fading due to atmospheric contaminents and neither epson nor canon nor HP dye-based ink are immune to it. I'll be surprised if they can last 6mths unframed let alone 100years. All are susceptible, just a matter of which ink+paper combo is more susceptible. |

Plan to get this during sitex. Price seems okay to me at $289 only concern about the ink cost. Any exisiting user out there?
does anyone knows if the ink will cost a bomb and if it will run out fast, esp printing A4 at max resolution dpi. Thanks |

Ink for Canon is no doubt one of the cheapest u can find.
Think Tank system, u can replace juz 1 cartridge if the colour for the particular cartridge runs out at juz abt $15 to $16 per colour. ![]() Anyway, I do photo prints occasionally (not on A4 of cos, I oso dunno wad to print on A4. Maybe next time my gf or my wife's photo) on my i560. So far it has been like 6mths no ink change. ![]() |

According to what I read; the fastest way to test is hang the print-out on the wall unprotected in a normal unair-con living room.

OIC...... think i read before that HP print head is on the cartridge itself.. so you get a new print head everytime you change cartridge... that explains why HP cartridge is rather expensive?? Canon and Epson has a permanent print head in the printer itself?? Anyone can clarify?? thanks. ![]() |
