There're 4 segments of competition today.

First - Night gown

Second - Swimwear (the contestants wore bikini today. below's a crop of the original pic)

Third - Cheongsam

Last - Q&A for the shortlisted 7

shot a bit more today cos unsure whether I got the pics sharp (especially, when the legs are tired and arms aching) it does take up quite a bit of space back home on the PC though.

Luckily shot raw in majority so that can adjust the tint. The single xenon HID spotlight wrecked havoc on the WB, no such thing as WB as it was varying according to the AC sine wave. Forgot about this.

It is worse for me as i was shooting in high shutter as fast as 1/400-1/500 (slower shutter better as it averages out) and fill flash at -2EV. Have a couple of jpgs which got the ladies having eye-contact with my glass but the colour is unsavable.

I only have a humble 500 pics or so for today.

Guess I was lucky then. I was shooting either in Manual mode with flash (ISO400, fixing shutter speed at 1/250s, flash uncompensated) or aperture priority (ISO800, -1/3 to -2/3EV, -1FEC and getting shutter speeds of ~1/100s).

the spotlight even has very obvious CA

Zplu's pics would be better cos he brought along the flash bracket I was too lazy (the bracket adds weight and I'll need a monopod to stabilise the setup). I realised the strong shadows cast to one side and for the later segments, shot some pics in landscape orientation (to throw shadows behind) and crop to "portrait", instead of shooting in portrait orientation That said, my preference is still for ambient lighting with flash as fill-in.

Hahah! yeah... I brought along "the stick" as the stroboframe was too heavy. Also didn't bring my batt pack for the flash. Basically travelling light for yesterday's event. Was pushing high ISO of 800 and 1600 as my Bigma dies not like the low lighting there... except for that horrendous spotlight. Lots of blockage though.... Had this huge bounce card that kept popping up and down in front of me courtesy of M.O..... Wished I have a ladder or something....

could have used the chair but the people behind would not be so happy yup, didn't realise the official photographers would be there in front of us. the other side isn't much better cos of reflection of the entrance on the background.
