Default Using TTL flash on a S7000? CAn?

Hi,
I understand that the S7000 does not have TTL function and will it be ok if i use a TTL flash on it? Will it malfunction or something? OR would it just work like other flashes just without the TTL function?
Thanks!

No TTL, but auto flash will expose the scene 'correctly' (I'll rather say 'foreground bright, background dark'). As a matter of fact, it is best to use Manual mode on camera for flash on the S7000/S20pro/S602.

Using TTL flash won't spoil the camera or flash, as the electronic contacts are not even there! But I do realise that some TTL flash 'short circuits' and may cause the flash not to fire.

I see..anyway, im very very new to flash..
because i realised that those with AF Assist on the flashes only come with TTL models. Does the AF Assist work even when my camera is not TTL enabled? Thanks.

Nope, when it comes to flash on the S7000, treat any flash as totally manual or at best only auto flash exposure. The camera doesn't talk to any brand or flash, other than, "fire now".

by the way, what is the AF assist light for in the flash for? What function does it serve?
In other words, I can buy those flashes, just that it will not have those functions, am i right?
Cos I still want to keep the flash when i upgrade to another camera..thanks!!!

the AF assist won't be activated on s7000. But frankly *not* all TTL flash will fire full blast when mounted on a standard iso hotshoe. Just an example... my friend is using a Nikon F65d, and he owns a Suntax 928AFN (dedicated Nikon TTL flashgun). And when i use it on my s7000, the flash will not give a full blast but instead it will meter the surroundings and give out the approprieate flash exposure. But since i don't know what aperture/shutter speed to pair with the flashgun, basically the flash will underexpose my shots almost everytime. It sux even more when i use it as bounce flash! Severe underexpose!

If you go for a TTL flash now, you might be tied to go for that system in future. Example if you pair your s7000 with a 580EX, it will be silly to go for other systems like Oly and Nikon and leave your 580EX with your s7000 right? Furthermore that flashgun itself cost as much as the s7000

Reason might be the other 4 contact pins being shorted. Just tape them up, leaving the centre pin uncovered. U should get full flash.

This problem happened to me when a mounted a EOS dedicated flash (non ETTL) on my D60. After taping the other 4 pins, I get my fulll flash.

Happy shooting.

You can just purchase a normal "automatic" flashgun for your S7000. A word of caution that the trigger voltage must not exceed 6-7v, else your hotshoe contact will be spoilt.

Do search and read up on previous discussions of flashguns for S602Z.. It's the same for your S7000..
