Cool Phuket - Hot from CompactFlash!

Hope you had a good long weekend. Just returned this morning from phuket over the weekend, and here are some of my sharing. Appreciate any comments.

Snorkelling 20 metres off the shore at Raya Island/Racha Island, Phuket. This is a beautiful place with turqiouse waters.

Long tail boat berthed at Siam Bay, Raya Island/Racha, away from the crowds of thw world.

Eagle at Raya Island/Racha, Phuket. Against the setting sun and sky with reduced flash.

Sunset at Bang Tao Beach, Phuket. A river runs from the beach towards the shore.

eagles_creek, the eagle was perched on a wood stick near a walkway, and I slowly went closer and closer, and it did not bulge, so I tested until I was 30 cm from it... man it was really exciting. Even the flash did not frighten it.... phew.. if not, my front filter would be scratched by the beak of the eagle... hew:

alas but i feel the fill-in flash is not strong enough. the eagle is a bit underexposed.

btw it reminds me of the 101st Screaming Eagles

Even if you did not get the picture.....it is so nice to get so close to the eagle and appreciate it's beauty.

Maybe its a "vain" eagle......

yup, it was a first time encounter getting so close to a "real" eagle. can feel its 'presence' perching on the wood stumb... not like those in the zoo where a telephoto will get it. it was quite a unique experience for me (at least). perhaps others also had such experience?

the American 101st Airborne Division. the 101st Eagle is the North American Bald Eagle.

not so sure if the one you took is a Hawk or Eagle.

Just found out that the bird is a Brahminy Kite, Scientific name - Haliastur indus, Habitat - Common in open areas often near water, but also in mountains up to 1500 m.
