Nikkor 50mm f1.8D Price

Hi there,

I am getting this lens soon and any help would be appreciated if somebody have tips what is the current market price or better lowest

price for the above mentioned lens and what shop.

My inquiries (w/ gst):
AP : $178
MS : $175
CP : $185
Lords: $175

Anymore?

By the way, in buying a lens what do you guys check? Any sort of checklist or testing you do at the shop? Do you bring your body? Any checklist or what test to do for the newly purchased lens? Apologies for this newbie question

Let me try to help. The price looks good. You could try sourcing further, but it's unlikely there will be significant savings. Unless you buy used.

1. Open the aperture biggest. Point the lens at a light, prefer a bright one. Look at the glass, check for stains, fungus, scratches, internal dust and little dots that won't go away by blowing. It's unlikely there will be bubbles in Nikon glass. But just check anyway.

2. Close the aperture to the smallest. Look at the aperture blades, make sure there is no oil visible on them.

3. Slowly open from smallest to the biggest aperture. It should be clicking on every indicated number. The aperture blades should move accordingly too.

4. Twist the focus ring from infinity to closest. It should be one smooth movement. Do it a few times, make sure it's smooth. The 50mm f1.8 is cheap. So it's not buttery smooth like the pro lenses. But there shouldn't any clicks and bumps along the way.

5. Check the markings and make sure they are printed properly. (Unlikely)

6. Check the mount for rough metal sticking out. (Unlikely)

7. Check whole lens and make sure there is no crack on the body. (Unlikely)

Oh yeah. I forgot. Shake the lens, make sure there is no rattling, like something is loose.

I forgot again.

There is a pin sticking out the back on the mount area. When your aperture is smaller then wide open. The pin will move too. Pushing the pin will cause your aperture to open wide. Do it and make sure your aperture opens and closes with no fuss.

as per ant_wish at john 3:16 it's $165, maybe if we buy there can get some more discount since your nick got john also.

i am also very keen to get one.
i think price should be ok if some place can sell it for 165. but 170 is the normal price.

why not create a thread of MO the lens from one local shop. let us see how many people want it, then email to CP, MS Color, or Alan Photo ask them to fight each other.

someone may need a good filter, someone may need a 50mm f/1.4
so we gather together, then got bargaining power. since even order single B+W HMC (slim) + 50mm f/1.4 still no much bargaining power, 团结就是力量。

transfer the money and ur IC no. to one people. he paid and leave the ICs to shop, the buyers can go to collect their lens according to their IC no. and check by themself for both lens, receipt and price.

for the 50mm 1.8 may save 10 bucks, for 50mm 1.4 may save more.
but still good for the poor beggar like me.
