camera is not important, as camera is just a tool,

photo is not important, as photo is the finish product,

the motive and the process of creation of photos are the most important, as in the artist's perspective.

Camera is needed to take the shot = important
The Process/learning experience / life Experience of how/why/where you take the shot = important

so its really subjective... in the end we must not be blinded by our wants and needs in the pursue of photography... i see many iphone shooters take great shots while expensive pro cameras take lousy ones... most important is know what is needed to get the picture you want and to push yourself & YOUR MIND plus equipment to the maximum..

    知彼知己,百戰不殆;不知彼而知己,一勝一負;不知彼,不知己,每戰必殆
It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.

in the end... the most important thing is yourself, your soul and what you want in life... nothing is more important than that..

depend on situation... but I always put more care and concern to my camera rather than photos unless its a life threatening shoot (like the PS2 game where you need to shoot to kill the zombie). if camera spoilt that means no more photos for me... because I am a poor man to replace it.

For those who stated camera is more important, can explain why? And also do indicate what type of photos you are taking, e.g. portrait, wedding, building, model shoot etc...

This would shed some lights on camera vs photo.

No definite answer. Depends on what is the photo. If its just some random snapshots, how is it more important that your equipment

That why I want to know what the reason they feel equipment is important.

For me as I am shooting street, the most important thing is the camera I had with me, be it what model I am taking cause without a camera there won't be a photo.

    Don't bluff yourself.
Most of us take photos that are lousily taken, have absolutely no value to anyone else and of events that are not once in lifetime or earthshaking.
The camera is important. The photos are not.

(EDIT - this is to tell you that occasions like the one below is a one in a million chance which normal people in everyday life is unlikely to come across)
You are not Nick Ut who was in the right place and the right time and (maybe) risked his life to take this important photo to tell the whole world of US violations against villagers and civilians in Vietnam War.

From your reply, may I ask why are you taking photos? then what is photography mean to you? So to say, your camera is just for display at one corner of your house?

Then your this reply contradict your previous statement, so at the end of the day is the photo important be it what camera you used to take?

I think no matter how worse your photos are, how lousy are they taken, how no value it may seem to others.

The most important thing is the value of the photo to you and yourself - your 18th birthday, your wedding, the birth of your child, the day your child walk, your family photo, the photo of your father/mother, your first holiday trip, the photo of your first home... etc....

It may be lousily taken, it may have no value to anyone else, but it meant something to you. It is important to you.

The day you look back at the photos, it is IMPORTANT, because you TOOK it, you capture a moment, not your camera.

The camera is only as important as a tool for you to do that, and that is it....
