How did you get such a huge macro man? It's like I can pull off his hairs one by one.

I think this type of fly is the bigger type and not those common smaller house flies. Once they are perched, they tend to stay still for a long time.....if they just landed, (which is the case for these shots) they tend to stay still for some time.....

Maybe the question you should ask is that are you happy with it? if you are happy with the Hoya, than there is no reason to change.....just my 2c.

The 6T is a +2.9, and the Sigma is a +1.6, so if used together is a +4.5, and both are double element lens. Its costly but I am please with the end results.

I found this site which I got the info from:

I also face focusing problems...its quite hard to focus especially w/o tripod. If using tripod, and subject is cooperative and stays still, than auto focus is ok. Otherwise, I usually use manual focus....fix the focus, and hold still in my hand and sway my body, depressing the shutter button halfway, and well I think the subject appears sharp in my LCD/EVF, I depress fully. Most of the time it is out of focus....but sometimes, like the above fly pic, its 1 out of 20 or so shots.

For macro, the DOF(depth-of-field) is quite shallow, thats why to get what you want in focus is not easy.

Hope this helps.

Hi tchuanye, thanks for the tips again...appreicated

Now I understand is because of the shallow DOF in maco mode that cased focusing difficultly and is also about time for me to get a tripod liao handheld is quite hard for macro.

Have to try harder

So you use 6T and Sigma together. IIMW 6T is 62mm and Sigma is 58mm right? How do you make it work with your camera? Step ring? Any impact on the quality of the picture (although I can't really see the impact on your amazing pictures)?

Still, you need the remote shutter. Otherwise, when your timer ends, it's gone too! With tripod, depressing the shutter can cause 'shake' too. In Macro, a slight shake is 'hazardous'!

You are right that I use a step down ring, I suppose that it will only alter the magnification some what (not sure magnify larger or smaller). I was also concerned about the effect of using a ring in between, but apparenty it did not cause much of a problem.

Hey club_de_oldman, no problem....all of us here are all learning from each other, and I have to learn from you guys other things too!

I was thinking about your question after my post, and there could be another possibility.....For me I use the close up at 12x. At that position, the focus distance is quite fixed. For e.g. with the 6T, the working distance is 29cm. Anything more or less than the 29cm working distance, the AF will start hunting and you will end up out of focus. So unless its within that 29cm, than the AF can focus....thats why I use the swaying method and hope the subject will be within the focus zone.
