Thread: LEE or no LEE??

  1. #1

    Default LEE or no LEE??

i've been playing filters for quite awhile
and i also love doing landscape

im thinking if i should move into LEE filter system or rather invest in LEE filter system since it has the options i need, and the filters that i would love to have for my landscape shoots n stuff

on the other hand, the price tag and the availability of the filter n the system kinda puts me off, since im more of a hobby shooter den a pro photographer...

can kindly advise me what are the options i have?

sometimes i find it a headache to actually screw-in the filters n stuff, the the problem of hunting the different brands of filters n their needed stops

Photoshop, Cokin and singhray are a couple more options
It is the camera, not the photographer.

This is really up to you.

I have never found it worthwhile to pay the price for Lee. In fact, for quite a long time, I was using nothing but Tianya GNDs. Then when I started work, I thought that perhaps I could afford something slightly better, so I moved on to Hi-tech filters. Have they improved my photography vastly? I don't know, I still have to compose everything myself, I still have to expose correctly even with use of a filter. They also still have casts for anything above 2 stops - but I do spend less time blending photographs these days. I can't see if Lee will help you a lot more beyond that, quality always comes at an exponential price.

You just work with what you feel like buying, at any point in time.

I recently ordered more than S$1k worth of Hitech/Lee filters from UK, no import tax/ GST even though seller declared full value. Depends on luck I guess. Maybe postal mail has lesser chance of being taxed

I suggest u go to TK shop instead of calling to check the lee system and filter that you intend to buy now or viewing or compare the prices...They even open on Sunday.. until 7pm...

Basically, orient sells the same Hitech filters as TK at the same price, the only diff is, TK foto will not charge you extra for credit card payment for the filters but orient photo will. 3% if I'm not wrong.

Dear TS, looks like you answered your own question. Any time when you have to ask such "Lee or no Lee" questions, then the short answer is "No Lee".
