Subject: Teleconvertor for the A40

Dear Xxxx XX

Sorry for the delay in answering.

The teleconvertor TC-DC52 is available. However dealers are not carrying it yet as they do not stock it. The teleconvertor is available at $169. If you place a booking with deposit to your camera dealer, I am sure that they will bring in for you. In the worst case that they do not want to bring in for you, you can contact me at tel:67998738 and I will arrange for you. However a few days lead time is necessary.

Regards.

Therefore, for those who are interested, you can do a MO. Perhaps misato/sunyee can help?

Hi, just like to ask, if you use this on a 3X optical zoom camera, is the total/overall zoom 3X times 2.4X, or is it 3X plus 2.4X?
Thanks. Newbie using a not-so-disposable A40 here.

Not sure whether will there be any vignetting. I think you need to check on other forum or unless some have this tele for you to try. You may try this link to see any answer to your question

do note that on other cameras, there might be some vignetting.... I expect the rear element to be small.

Well... technically speaking, a 3x zoom lens with a 2.4x teleconverter remains a 3x zoom. However, all the resultant focal lengths in the 3x zoom range will be 2.4x of their corresponding focal length without the teleconverter attached. As such, it is true that the longest focal length with the teleconverter will be 3*2.4==7.2 times the shortest focal length without the teleconverter. I guess that's what we usually mean when we talk about 7.2x zoom with teleconverter.

Of course, vignetting problems will probably make a significant part of the zoom range unusable in practice, so there may still be some intermediate focal lengths that cannot be usably achieved with or without a teleconverter.

I recall that there were some posts on the Canon forum at DPReview that indicated that this teleconverter is pretty much unusable with the G2 due to serious image degradation and vignetting. Since the G1 uses the same lens as the G2 (am I correct?), I presume this will be the case as well. Maybe you might want to check the DPReview forums and see what you can dig up.
