Default Coming Home..

Guys, this is my first post here. Please be gentle

Further post processed helped by a friend aka "fish".

1. In which area is critique or feedback to be given?
Composition, colour saturation, any other ways this scenarios could be framed/composed better?

2. What were you hoping to achieve with this image?
Wanted to reflect the rising majestic of the sun and with the foreground of the boat heading "back home" to the floating house.

3. Under what circumstance was the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)
It was taken handheld in the early morning on a kelong. Woke real early and was totally awed by the image which came before me. Took quite a few shots in different "stages" of the sun rising and felt that this was the one which took my breath away. Had to lean myself against a beam to keep my arms steady. Didn't bring my tripod.

4. Thread-starter's personal thoughts about the image.
The awesomeness of nature and God's creation.

Composition
1. Use 2 or less focusing points, should use the boat or the house, instead of both in the frame. It will cause both to be OOF.
2. Horizon is very slightly tilted, but still acceptable.
3. If possible, take from the same eye level with the boat or house instead from top down.
4. It is quite hard to visualize the boat moving back home in the picture because it seems motionless in the image.

Colour
1. The colour is great, and overall the image gives a pleasant feeling.
2. Because of non tripod, there is a little blur, so can use some sharpening.

Overall, it is a very nice and soothing photo. I like the split sky.

actually, in this case since the horizon is not flat, perhaps taking from higher up would be better, so the roof of the house does not blend into the horizon? then the silhouette would be clearer

It will be really be nice, but have to consider the fact that TS is at a kelong ... no upper floor.

Wow looks great!
Only 2 comments for your considerations.
a. You see how the roof is merged into the trees in the back? In future if possible try to create separation by eg. perhaps shooting lower so the top of roof protrudes beyond the line.

b. Boat and hut fighting for attention, in this case, the hut shd win. Retouch out the boat or/and crop accordingly.

Hey thanks Rendell for taking the time to give me some valuable feedbacks! Will definitely keep those in mind and learnt something new again!

Ah, yeah, noted on the sharpening part. I'm not too good with PP yet. Thanks!!

Woah. By imagining that in my head is already exciting (the trees protruding beyond the line).

Thanks for the "fighting for attention part". Hmm, will try variation on doing the cropping (hope my PP skills holds out!).

Thanks for the ideas!!

Good catch. Try with one foreground subject (house or boat).

And for the House, there is not enough separation, as the roof is blending into the trees(?) at the horizon.

Nice catch of the Rays..

Noted on the one foreground subject, must learn to isolate subject and bring out focus on each of them! Hmm, for the house, how should i create more separation ?

Thx daredevil for taking time to jot some feedbacks here!

separation can be achieved in a few ways. One is shifting location, or get a higher vantage. I do realize you were on a kelong. If by moving around you are still unable to separate the roof from the trees, maybe selecting the boat instead as the foreground might be a better bet.

This is one example... (click on pics to see larger versions)

This is a shot I took. After taking the picture, I realized the roof of the pavillion is kind of "mixed up" with the dark trees in the background.

I shifted my location and now, I get more separation of the roof from the trees.

Apart from a view angle shift sideways, you can also get to a higher vantage point to use the brighter water surface (due to reflection) and get separation that way. I used the higher vantage point to get the separation of the poles using the reflection of the sky in the water here:

I apologize if the pictures I used in these examples are not the best quality. I am quite a 'newbie' myself and I just though showing it visually is easier than trying to explain in words.

Thanks. BTW, earlier today I posted a critique thread for that BW pic of a jetty. When the thread gets approved, I welcome you to critique my work. Any honest C&C, good and bad will be greatly appreciated. I would like honest feedback as well, so I can improve. The title will be "Quiet Jetty". Thanks in advance!
