nice action shots!~
but whats with the processing? blacks, contrast, desaturation
overcast day make the pics look plain?

i figured normal shots looks plain and the shadows from the bright sunlight is quite jia lat.Face unevenly lit.Plus, trying to achieve my idols way of processing.Kongping.Look up his pictures.Compared to mine, mine look like plain jane shots.
Plus,i like the gritty look of the picture it brings out.At least from what i feel lol

Thanks for your critique . The dakeness of the picture is because of me adding blacks . Hmmmm will try to improve in this aspect

The photos are nicely cropped.

Processing is not to everyone's taste, as some have already pointed out.

(1) Like a few others, I think they're too dark for my tastes. But I do like the "gritty" look. Seems apt considering we're looking at a game of rugby. With sports photography - and based only on what I've seen that I like - maybe you should try to get the backgrounds more blurry to make the subjects stand out (as was done in #1 and #11). Otherwise its a bit distracting and difficult to see where is the main subject (as in #8-11). You've managed to freeze the action well, though.

(2) One other thing, and this is not to do with your technique at all. But take a look at #2. What's with the difference in size btwn the two players. The guy in gloves, about to receive the ball looks tiny compared to the guy about to wallop him (and it looks like he got a good ol' hospital pass there!). I've played rugby before and back in my schoolboy rugby days in NZ, there was a school we'd play against from time to time, which would always field a few "schoolboys" with moustache and beards and a wife and kids on the sideline! School of hard knocks, indeed!

Anyway, I enjoyed your photos. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Ben

uhh
that kid is letting go of the ball...
you can see his arms are still in that real awkward position after you spin it out. theres so many photos of my squads scrum half doing the same thing

back on topic,
photos are nice, frozen the moment quite well but theyre a little to dark and contrasty for my liking...

does a monopod not restrict your shot choice by a huge margin ?
monopod is a waste of time especially when your using a 55-250 vr. i used a monopod and thought it was fine for the first few times and then i felt it just reduced my shot choice and versatility heaps.

shots are good. eye contact is what draws viewers in. your processing sometimes on some shots put shadows over the eyes. 1,2,6,7 all suffer from this. it has said before but not specifically so i thought i'd bring it up. composition isn't bad. i'd resort to a normal processing.

It depends on a large extent on what you're shooting and what you're shooting with. A 55-200 is definitely light enough to hand hold and a monopod probably will get in the way rather than not. But if you're shooting for several hours through the event then you also probably don't want to be holding your camera, no matter how light, through that time.

At the other end of the scale a gimbal head wouldn't necessarily be my choice to support a long lens for sevens either; perfectly doable, particularly if you're standing, but I much prefer to sit when I shoot field sport (there's little reason not to, and if anything a lower viewpoint tends to help in a number of situations), and if you're sitting them a gimbal head causes rotation about the middle which means your viewfinding is contantly moving which is particularly annoying when seated.

Great shots. I love the gritty look but somehow feel that there's too much black.

EEEEEPPPP!Pro's speaking!Always enjoyed your work. Thanks for the compliment.Learnt alot from you.I learnt the croppings from your pictures!I would check if you'd crop out any parts of the body if I need to crop.Like the legs.I've always seen your pictures with the feets uncropped so I did'nt crop the leg.
I also agree it's not to everyone's taste

RED:I wished I could blur the background in every shot. But I dont have a 2.8 tele lens.
LIME:Thanks. That's what I wanted to achieve.I was hoping that it could rain that day and get their pants and socks all soiled up.It rained but they didnt get dirty(or maybe the field was too good)
