Just sold my 500D KitII and eagerly awaiting the arrival of 7D. Would like to know for those who has DECIDED to change to 7D, what would be the primary lens on your 7D (on your camera most of the time). For the naysayers of 7D, kindly refrain from posting unconstructive comments
Thanks |

if a bird shooters is buying this and says he will only mount a 600L or 800L. will u get that. just get what u need and what u can afford since u are a hobbist. you can go for a quality General purpose lens like efs 1755, 2470L or 24105L

I own the 17-40L, 50 1.4 and 70-200 2.8L IS and I will use all 3 equivalently when the time calls for them.
If you're talking about a normal zoom lens which most people want, mine's the 17-40L.

I guess that depends on usage, as the above 2 has shown. It's a pity they released it after F1.
Well there's always next year. |

The 7D is going to be mated with my 400mm 5.6 (the only birding lens I have) To TS: I may have missed something, but how different is this thread from a "Primary lens for your 1.6 crop cam). If you are looking for opinions on what is the best focal length, you will not find anything new. But looking at if from a different angle, I think the need for a good lens is greater, given the high resolution sensor. Do you want to pair the 7D with low resolving lens that is not able to take advantage of the sensor? What lens is good enough? - This I do not know. My guess is that any L prime will do ![]()

I brought 2 lens before buying a canon body or to say awaiting for 7D, I brought 24-105 F4 and 10-22, mount mainly on it will be 24-105, to me for normal street shooting or even portrait, 24-105 do have a nice focal length...
well, it somehow personal. 24-70 will be nice, but I cant afford at this moment unless someone wanna trade with me with my 24-105 F4 next lens going to be will be 180F3.5 Macro. if I got nothing better to buy, I will 70-200F2.8IS to complete my collection.

I totally agreed that the 7D would require a high resolving lens to match the high resolution sensor. Hence I would like to gather opinions as to which general-purpose zoom lens does potential 7D owner think would be a good match for 7D capabilities. Thanks for the feedback and keep it coming ![]() |

Currently am thinking of the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 USM IS as my main walk about lens but the EF-S 15-85 f/3.5-5.6 USM IS is tempting also as I find myself shooting more towards the > 25mm range during walk abouts. Only thing is that from what I read all over the net, having a high megapixel count means I should be looking at sharp lens. Too bad the tamon 28-75mm is slow on AF if not I would be very tempted to get it. My previous one was sharp enough for me even wide open at f/2.8.

The 7D is a crop set, not FF so there's only 1 choice - 17-55mm f/2.8. Runner up will be the new 15-85mm lens.

Although a convenient setup would be the 10-22 + 24-105L for cropped body like the 7D. |

looks like most CSers do not have much confidence in the 2 NEW 7D kit lenses (EF-S 15-85 and EF-S18-135). 40% would go for the tested and proven EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 ![]() |

most ppl with the bucks will rather spend on a constant aperture lens like f2.8 and f4...else the new kit lens are fine. but one of them if i not wrong is so damn ex for a kit lens that i think i won't be bother with it.

I would go for the 17-55. Why? Because it will absolutely pwn for shooting 1080p clips.
