Default Epson Perfection 3200

Hey guys...

The Epson Perfection 3200 flatbed scanner has received quite good reviews (or so I've seen)... Does anyone own this scanner?

The below link is to an image shot with a Graphlex Graphic View 2 Large Format Camera and scanned by the Epson 2450 Scanner.

The clarity just blows me away...

Regards,
Aaron

It excels for medium format and large format and performs remarkably well(for a flatbed) for 35mm. My friend just bought one and I have the opportunity to scan my slides on his scanner as a trial.

Here's are 2 100% crops from a Provia 100F scanned at 3200dpi@11MP(40xx*26xx) for your viewing interest.

Outdoor shot:

Mildly underexposed indoor shot:

Colour corrected, resized to 25% and sharpened:

Uploaded as bitmaps as the site has problem linking tiff files.

Might not be representative of sharpness as the shots were taken on a 31 year old Fujica ST801 + 55mm f1.7 EBC Fujinon.

Would like it if anyone could post some Dimage Dualscan III or Nikon Coolscan 4 images at similar settings for comparison.

Also, I would have thought that quality would be the same as if it were scanning Medium Format or 35mm slides...

Thanks for the scans!

It wouldn't. The incredible detail in the sharpness of the Large Format scan is due to the much larger dimensions of the actual film. A 35mm slide is only 24x36mm is less than 1/6 of the area.

Other online reviews had echoed similar sentiments: Impressive for Large and Medium format, and good/decent 35mm scans(compared to dedicated scanner).

BTW, can you post the url of the original review that linked to that scan?
