Default sigma 15-30mm EX DG f3.5-4.5

hi, about this superwide zoom, many people do not get any vignetting but some on the internet commented they had.

what are your experiences?

internet price $800, i heard fotoguide is $1050 or so.

only uses gel filters, so that's it, no circular polariser?

With an S1, I experience vignetting at 15mm end when use with the hood (which also act as a lens cap). else no prob.

Hmm seems like 15-30 is a good lens. Ultra wide.. got anyone with sample pic of it being used for 15mm ?

Dunno about using it on a DSLR but with film, the 15-30 I used gave me "smeared" edges and corners till f/8-f/10. It was as if the different parts of the image were pulled disproportionately. Looked like spherical aberration. I shot some frames using the Canon 15/2.8 fisheye just to compare, and the difference was incredible. The centre 50-60% of the image looked good, so it may not be a problem for DSLR users.

I am not sure about the colour balance on all lenses, but the sample I tried was extremely warm, though the colours were very saturated. One problem was flare... quite bad.

Bear in mind, this is only ONE sample of the lens - the one I tried. You might have better luck. I am not too confident about Sigma's QC.

Let me see if I can find the slides I shot with this lens. Will put up some scans if I find them.

using D30 no count leh, the 1.6 FLM...
problems with the sigma15-30 lies around the edges/corners and there are quite a few reports floating around the internet that mentions these... they also agree that stopping down to f/8+ is the way to correct them. that might be a small price to pay for versatility.

can take off hood one meh?

apparently u can get flare quite easily and even bright light within the frame itself can give rise to further flaring as well.

No, boxed and new. That was the asking price. I wanted to trade in two lenses for it and top up the difference, but in the end I changed my mind.
