Hi everybody,

Sorry to ask such a newbie question but what exactly is an 'ND' filter and what does it do?

Also, I've seen some night shots of skylines and noticed that the reflection on the ocean seems like there are no waves or even ripples. The surface is almost like a mirror and all the lights from the skyline refected are straight lines....wonder how they do it (or rather, what filter they use.....)

Please refer to my JBP Waterfall thread for ND filter discussion

In very layman terms, the ND is sunglasses for your camera.

Hi Acieed~~~~ (reminds me of some 80's techno songs~~~)

Thanks for the reply, which finally made me understand what ND filters are.

How about those night shots I asked about? Do you know how to create those effects?

I don't think any filter was used in those shots. You'd probably have to wait for good light, not too dark, maybe 7pm+, and experiment with the various exposure settings (long exposures preferred).

errr... pardon me, shutter spd at 0.8s is consider slow or fast? becos this link that was posted

http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthrea...threadid=16547

mentioned that the photographer uses 10s and someone said

"i like the way the plants framed the shot. sBut a pity the slow shutter speed ... i know its for the water.. but perhaps wind made the top left leaves move. (blur)"

so which is which??? i suppose 0.8s is consider fast and 10s is consider slow in normal terms rite?

0.8s is slow. but 10s is slower.
1/2s is also slow but faster.

i would say fast is something like 1/125s.
