monopod is a waste of time especially when your using a 55-250 vr. i used a monopod and thought it was fine for the first few times and then i felt it just reduced my shot choice and versatility heaps.

shots are good. eye contact is what draws viewers in. your processing sometimes on some shots put shadows over the eyes. 1,2,6,7 all suffer from this. it has said before but not specifically so i thought i'd bring it up. composition isn't bad. i'd resort to a normal processing.
Monopod:Well,I use my monopod in a way that it is used not to take away the load but to help me keep my horizon straight.Which is something quite hard for me personally to achieve without a monopod because while trying to capture the action, one would tend to forget about the horizon. And,plus Jed has said, the event started at 7.30 and I went there at 8 all the way to 1 plus, then 3 plus to 7.It's quite a long time and holding the camera for so long would certainly weight alot. It's just like holding a light dumbbell for a few hours

Photos.Thanks.I think I would still stick with this(De-saturation kind) of processing but would find a way to conquer the shadows.

At the other end of the scale a gimbal head wouldn't necessarily be my choice to support a long lens for sevens either; perfectly doable, particularly if you're standing, but I much prefer to sit when I shoot field sport (there's little reason not to, and if anything a lower viewpoint tends to help in a number of situations), and if you're sitting them a gimbal head causes rotation about the middle which means your viewfinding is contantly moving which is particularly annoying when seated.
Totally agree with the monopod.Personally i think a ballhead wouldnt be of any use for me because if I had a long lens,I would use the tripod mount and just tilt the monopod up or down.

About sitting during sports event,I totally agree!!!When I went there,Everyone were standing up or either at the grandstand. But I went as low as I could,I even lugged a stool to the event. In the end,it was such a load that I had to hail a cab home.I like to sit down and shoot because, you wont be so tired, the angle from below and standing is different. The following sentence applies to football, not sure about other sports.Players always look down when they are dribbling a ball. So,from shooting upwards, you can have a clear view of their face.
