Default S.League-Gombak United VS Geylang FC

Last game of the season for both sides. The crowd turn-out was great from both the bulls and the eagles.Final score was 2-2.A draw which kept Gombak 3rd on the table edging out Home Utd in goal difference.
Anyway, nice to meet cyr from cs.Sat beside 2 press photographers all using exotic lenses like 300f4 and 400f2.8

Here is my take:C&C needed!
1.Kingsley Njoku and Walid Lounis

2.Gabriel Obatola and Shah Hirul

3.Gabriel Obatola

4.Fazli Jaffar

6.Gabriel Obatola

7.Goran Subara

A lil more fact bout Subara.Foreign export from Aussie to sleague. This is his first season in sleague and he has made his name for himself as one of the most stable CB in sleague at the mere age of 22.Which usually CB peak at around 26-28.Sure hope to see him stay in sleague and even become a national player for sg.He's one to look out for when you watch gombak play

Is it possible for normal fans with camera to shoot at field level?

Some stadiums are able to.Some stadiums have very strict rules though.Had a conversation with a avid soccer photographer called cyrzk in cs.He said that some stadiums you can ask the stewards or ushers for permission while some others like Jalan Besar and Tampines have very strict rules about photography.

I am also a hobbiest with no press pass.I was able to go down to the sidelines for this match is because cyrzk took the initiative to ask the steward for permission and he agreed.

So just try your luck.If you are a student 1 dollar for ticket is quite cheap for adult it's 5.If you cant, just shoot from the grandstand.I've seen photos from the grandstand that are beautiful. If not, just enjoy the game and soak in the atmosphere.Defo gonna go and shoot a sleague match when my childhood team moves back to their own stadium.

That totally depends on what you want to shoot. If you want to get goals then you need a 70-200, unless you're on FF and sit nearer the corner flag then you can get away with a 300/2.8. But if you're on FF then you really don't want a 300/2.8; it's way too short.

If you're DX then you get just about get by on a 300/2.8, but personally it's still a little on the short side. It is however probably easier to shoot a bit looser if you're not that used to shooting sport, than shooting it tighter and missing lots of stuff.

Yea,but corners are very inconsistent. Some matches can have 3-5 coners while another could have 10-20 corners in one half. And how many times does corners get over-kicked and totally missed the players in the box?More than the amount of goals score through corners. So i guess it really depends on the team.Like some teams like to take advantages from set-pieces while others counter attack or wait for their chances.Personally I think 300 is fine for corners cos according to the steward, photographers are only allow to go near the corner flag and not the area in the penalty box.The photographer next to me used i think a 400f2.8 on a 1.3 crop.I took a glimpse of his picture of a corner header when he uploaded to the lappy,it looked great. So i think 300 is a safe bet.Unless you are getting really close to the penalty box.
Well,to each have his own preference.I think it really boils down to the style

The best soccer lens to have is the 200-400 by Nikon. 200 for short and 400 for long. That on one body and a 24-70 on another would be perfect, or a 80-200 depends what you are wanting to shoot. But a few times having a 70-200 has gotten me many more shots then just the 300 f/4 its self. Different situation demand different lenses although the 200-400 is the best lens for football/soccer.

Yea.Night sports are hard to shoot. These pictures were taken at f2.8 and at iso800.Plus I'm using a d200 which isnt known for it's low light capability so 800 max for me.I then had to stop down to -0.7 ev and brighten it using pp.From the picture, the shirts are already bright but the players face are still quite dark
