Default Ruddy Kingfisher - Uncommon Winter Visitor and Passage Migrant

Had a 3 hour session this afternoon with this Uncommon Winter Visitor and Passage Migrant to our shores.

All shots processed under Capture NX 2.0.

Ruddy Kingfisher - Halcyon coromanda (26.5 - 27 cm)

Nikon D300, 600mm AFS-I , 1.4X TC , F8, 1/40s, ISO 800, Spot Metering, Rear Curtain Slow @ GN 3.6M



Nikon D300, 600mm AFS-I , 1.4X TC , F9, 1/25s, ISO 1000, Spot Metering, Rear Curtain Slow @ GN 3.6M



Nikon D300, 600mm AFS-I , 1.4X TC , F8, 1/10s, ISO 1250, Matrix Metering, Rear Curtain Slow @ GN 3.2M

Fantastic photo. Beautiful color with excellent detail.
Lighting and composition are superb
You must been very lucky to have spotted tis uncommon visitor.
So did you shot this bird @ CG also,
Anyway, thanks for your tips on setting of the flash on "Rear Curtain Slow" when I met you @CG on 08 Nov.

Hi Ang,

Thanks for the kind compliments.

This was my second sighting of this Ruddy Kingfisher this year. Saw a pair in Pahang 2 weeks back.

This was taken at CG by the road side.

Glad to know that you understood what I meant on the flash settings.

See you around sometime this weekend.

Very nice bird, one question, do you shoot in RAW or Jpeg?

Thanks ! I shoot in RAW mode to enable proper image processing.
