Default Micro pics from trip to Istana Woodnuek

Today, I had the pleasure of joining my first group outing with the nice people from the UV/IR forum. While I didn't take any invisible-light shots, I did some B&W and micro pics. Here're some of the micro pics, mostly floral ...

All handheld with Nikon D70 + CRT-Nikkor...

Thank you guys

ngebor, the Nikkor has a negative field curvature and it does render things a little differently. Couple with a very shallow DOF @f1.2, even at 1/5x, makes this lens an interesting micro lens.

redstone, you`re right, it was from SBG. I processed the whole batch and posted some but didn't make a clear distinction ... my bad

Nice flora series.

Most of the thin DOF works well for me.

The CRT-Nikkor 55/1.2 is an industrial lens designed to capture CRT traces on oscilioscopes. As such, it has a negative curvature to compensate the shape of the scopes. What this translates to is a non-flat field micro lens. However, if the subject is 3D, you can use this to your advantage.

Here's how the lens looks like ...
http://homepage2.nifty.com/akiyanroo.../crtface2.html

Compared to a normal Micro-Nikkor, the CRT-Nikkor is also a faster lens. At magnification of 1/5, the effective aperture is about f1.86 when shooting at f1.2 (which I used for these pics), which is a lot faster than say, a 60mm Micro-Nikkor. Not only it allows higher shutter speed, it also allows a very narrow DOF for pictorial use. Finally, with a resolution of 250 lines/mm, it is a very sharp micro lens.

Price varies for this lens. At one time, I had about 5 mint copies of this lens, paid ranging from US$150-400, but I've sold most of them to friends. Looking at eBay, a mint one is now asking for US$900+. I've yet to see any in Singapore.

If you do decide to get one, do note that this lens has no focusing helicoid and is originally in LTM, i.e. 39mm thread mount.
