Thanks to Mr. Yim for sharing his time, life, experiences and book so unselfishly. Hopefully some budding writer cum photographer will glean from his enlightening talk.
Thank you! |

It was a fruitful evening indeed. Many can share technical stuff with you, but to find someone to share personal experiences (ie using expensive square lights vs. using tracing paper for a solution, benefits of a film SLR and problems in publishing a photo book) is not easy.
Thank you again Mr Yim for taking time to share with us. I urge those who missed yesterday's session to make it a point to go on the 2nd session. You won't regret it. |

It was great to hear about his experience, and many of the participants were active in the discussion. It was good vibe.
Also, Kudo to the organiser for this event, for having initiative and putting in effort for this talk. Cheers. |

Typical CS style, rush to register (since there's no repercussions), rush for queue spaces, and in the end, a significant number won't turn up.

Hmm, are you talking about the Macs Hello Kitty or rush for condo kinda queues? I'd think in general cases in Singapore of queues, at least the people who queue reach the end and make use of whatever they were queuing up for.
In CS it is different - its queue first, talk later (ie put name before doing ANYTHING else, then see if want to go, feel like going, check schedule later etc).

Perhaps next time, those interested could give a token of $5-$10 to attend the talk. This will show the sincerity and with the money, we could have the talk in a cafe etc. This idea may not go down well with some ppl but I believe the attendance rate will be much better.
Just an idea |

You're welcomed everyone. The whole point of this was to try let those interested gain knowledge from Mr. Yim. Those who didn't turn up, didn't get to benefit (as I did) from the discussion/talk. I'm glad people found it useful/good.
Anyway when Mr. Yim went technical, he mentioned kicker lights a few times - For those who didn't get what he was talking about, he's talking about studio lighting. Kicker are accent lights, lights that allows the photographer to illuminate only the area you want to accent. Hairlight for portrait photography is an example of a kicker. i THINK when he mentioned square lights, he meant a soft box. Soft box diffuses the lights, but the distance of box surface to light source is fixed. |

it is not a structured talk, but more a q & a session. much depends on the interaction between mr yim and audience. for thursday, it lasted about 1.5 hrs.

but i guess his insights on food photography was pretty general and could have gone into further details if more questions was asked.
*note: tracing paper on my next shopping list! * |
