I used a HOYA Circular Polarizer for shots 9, 10 and 11. The rest were done with a cheapo Tokina UV filter.

composition of the below picture can be further lateralised. i a bit itchy and did some post editing after cropping. hope it didn't ruin your picture. desat some areas, darkened highlights, saturated the buildings, and narrowed the levels plus blurred the corners.

paiseh, think i narrowed the levels too much and did not select the central part off. the details of the shoe shiner and his client are lost in the black & dark blue.

the pic does look better! you mean you selected areas to saturate the colors? and how do you darken the highlights? i've never done editing to the individual areas before, just editing to the whole picture per se.

it is a matter of trial and error cum visualisation. i know what i like in a scene and that is the olive yellow i want to bring out. so what i did is to select a semioval eclipse over the buildings and use a border of abt 200-250px and bring up the saturation of the yellow channel. however, i wanted to suppress the red and the green in the centre, so i did a small semioval eclipse over them with a border of 10px and desaturate the red and the green channel.

i'm using photoshop elements, so dunno if what i said above would help you or not.

darken highlight and lightened shadows can be done via a function in the elements too.

in general, i think your #5-8 can benefit more from increasing the exposure when shooting or postprocessing brightening up the midtones/highlights by shfting the input levels right sided bar more centrally. #2-3 can benefit more if you lighten the shadow slightly to bring out some details in the shadow. #1 should benefit more if you increase the contrast or use a circular polariser to reduce the reflection on the grey pole to make it look darker with more contrasting details.

just my thoughts. may or may not work.

Pic #5 & #11, acceptable flare can be seen from this 10-22mm Canon lens. But is OK for me (although I'm not a Canon user). Good lens nevertheless.

Hi! Nice pics, thanx for sharing. I like #2, the sunlight shining on the train. Sharp and nice colour. The contrast of light.
