Somehow I kinda feel that I ain't getting the best copy of my Sigma 70-300 APO DG lens.
Just ain't getting the magical touch. The autofocus is not helping either. Had to MF most of the time. Can someone with the above combination post some photos for comparison? If possible, please post EXIF data as well. |

I have this lens once and I guess you get what you pay for, probably a bit more. This lens has a terrible bokeh particularly the background has highlights and lots of details where they are renderred fuzzy. However, I am impressed by its sharpness from 70-200mm where is really excels. It is sharp one stop down, corner to corner, very sharp indeed. 200-300mm is where it starts to show its weakness. Autofocus is slow, and the lens is very very soft wide open, especially in the corners. The best mix of centre/corner sharpness can be achieved at f16-f22 when shooting at 300mm... .

The aperture profile of this lens is about f/4 at 70mm, then progresses to f/4.5 to around 135mm+ and finally f/5.6 at around 200mm and up. I can't really remember as I don't have the lenses + camera at hand (in office right now
).The zoom position of the lens is important since it's not a constant-aperture lens. |
